Is anyone else finding that their license *constantly* needs to be re-freshed?
I think I've submitted - on a single laptop - for license reassignment like four times now. And that doesn't include the times when I've been too annoyed to do so, and simply switched over to my other license key. (Because I've got the two "devices", but I only ever use one device). |

No.
Almost all license problems stem from a license being assigned to one device then attempting to use that same license on a different device when there's an update to HL. To prevent almost all of these issues, make sure that your devices have their own license and you NEVER swap them round. |

I have *one* device. My laptop.
EDIT: Prior to needing a "license code", I used the iPad app. But I don't think I ever assigned it a license code, and just to be sure, I deleted it from my iPad completely a couple weeks ago. And in the intervening couple weeks, I've had to reassign my desktop license twice. Last edited by dballing; September 1st, 2014 at 04:23 AM. |

If you put in a support ticket, then they can have a look to see what is happening with your license(s).

Yeah, I did that once before. Got told there was nothing going on. Did it again yesterday. Will see if that shakes anything loose. :-(

Are you making hardware changes like new video cards or such? Windows will often see that as enough to change its unique id which is what HL keys off of. Changing your BIOS or upgrading it will trigger this also. Just tossing out another reason why HL will ask for a new license.

No, this is my MacBook Air. Literally nothing is changing. (it's actually physically impossible for me to change any of its RAM/SSD/etc.)

This happened to me, all of my licenses started whining accross all of my machines, and in trying to fifgure it out I ended up re-assigning one twice on different machines, but a quick support call and it is all sorted out and made good.

Exmortis: Yeah, if I had a bunch of machines - or even two machines - all of that would make perfect sense to me.
But having a single machine confuses matters greatly. |

Only thing to do is work with support on ideas on why a Mac may change its unique ID that HL uses. All I can say is its not normal. I personally have all 5 licenses running without issues. Most of my players have 2 at least and again no issues with license.
So its something "unique" to your laptop. I am not really familiar with macs so can't really give any other advice.
