Version 9.0 of the Pathfinder files for Hero Lab is now available

A new update of the Pathfinder files for Hero Lab is now available from the automatic updates mechanism within Hero Lab.

This update adds a new feature to Hero Lab - the encounter builder. This lets you choose a target CR for your encounter (and if you've loaded the PCs into Hero Lab, shows you their Average Party Level, and how difficult this encounter is estimated to be for them). Then, look through all the NPC and monster portfolios stored in Hero Lab (currently over 4,000 of them if you own all the available Hero Lab packages), to find the ones you want to add to this encounter. We also offer a filter option, if you're looking for specific details in the monsters you're adding. Hero Lab will keep track of the XP that your encounter is worth so far, and how much is still left in the budget for the CR you've chosen. Once you're finished, you can add those enemies to Hero Lab, and use Hero Lab to keep track of the enemies' HP, conditions, the spells cast on them, etc.

This update also adds Champions of Balance as a free update for anyone with the Player Companion #14 package. This package already contains People of the Sands and Bastards of Golarion, and is available for $4.99.

For those of you with Rite Publishing's Secrets of Adventuring package, we've added more content to that package - Chapter 8 as a free update to that package.

If you don't have Secrets of Adventuring yet, do you feel like your Pathfinder game needs a refresh? Feel like you just need a new take on classes or the usual approach to your games? From the publisher that brought you 1001 Spells, Rite Publishing is now bringing “The Secrets of Adventuring” to your game! This book brings provides new choices for the usual Pathfinder character options, and also takes a new approach to classes. If your players aren’t interested in the hack and slash approach, provide them with the option of Tactical Archetypes! Rite Publishing has partnered with Hero Lab to release Chapters 1-6 this month, and more chapters will be released over the following months as free updates to anyone that has purchased the package. Refresh your game today with “The Secrets of Adventuring” for only $14.99!

This update also adds player content from Adventure Path issue #79 "The Half Dead City" and includes several bug fixes.

Here's the change list for this update:

  • Added support for Hero Lab's new Encounter Builder, now accessible from the new Gamemaster menu!

  • The Alchemically Invisible template had a typo in its description.
  • The Hellknight's Aura of Law had an incorrect description.
  • The Ice Tomb hex has been updated to new errata.

  • The Ice Tomb hex has been updated to new errata.
  • The Cleric of Besmara and the Ranger of Besmara archetypes (detailed in skull and shackles), were missing.
  • Increasing Mythic Tier was not increasing CR appropriately.
  • When adding a mythic path to a character and then reverting them to non-mythic status, the class summary still showed the chosen path and tier.
  • Sythesist summoners were sometimes displaying their fused eidolon's race name in the header rather than the character's race name.
  • The Mysterious Stranger's Stranger's Fortune ability has an incorrect description.
  • Daredevil Softpaws were missing (they were updated to become Daredevil Boots in UE, but in so doing lost the Stealth Bonus they granted).

  • The Wild Shadow ranger archetype was granting too large a bonus to track at 1st level, though it was correct at higher levels.
  • Light weapons which could be thrown were not generating an error when equipped in both hands.

  • Suli were getting darkvision from their outsider type when they shouldn't have.
  • Item powers were incorrectly showing in the output hero statblock.
  • Armor check penalty from shields was not applying as a penalty on attack when using weapon finesse.
  • Shield bashes weren't benefitting from overall bonuses to attack and damage.
  • Arcanists were getting an error if they selected one of the elementalist schools for the School Understanding exploit.
  • Item powers were showing as disabled on the Specials tab when the item was equipped.
  • Ponies were missing the Docile special quality.
  • The Scent of Fear feat was missing its situational attack bonus.
  • Tactical Insight was showing as a 9th-level spell.
  • The Spinosaurus animal companion was incorrectly marked as a quadruped.
  • Custom Output (used in custom character sheets) was often displaying the melee damage of ranged weapons, making the effect of ranged damage increases like Deadly Aim invisible on custom sheets.
  • The Runeslave giant template needed to be updated to the most recent version (Wrath of the Runelords Anniversary Edition).
  • The Gauntlet weapon gained from a suit of armor was not being treated the same as a gauntlet purchased independantly for things like Weapon Focus and the Warpriest's Sacred Weapon ability.
  • The Power Point resource would throw an error if all power points were not spent.
  • The Metal Magic class ability of the Metal wizard specialized school was not adding the listed spells to the wizard's spell list.
  • The secondary spells table was showing for an inquisitor.
  • The Thunderburst revelation was showing an incorrect radius.
  • The Crypt Breaker archeetype was not adjusting the damage of it's bombs.
  • Legendary Items were setting their names incorrectly when the chosen item had spells.
  • The Constructed Racial ability for Inevitables was not functioning correctly
  • The Fast Bombs discovery wasn't granting extra attacks with bombs.
  • The Huge Size evolution wasn't granting bipedal eidolons the correct reach.

Catman,

This is the bug reporting thread for official Pathfinder bugs. The Lone Wolf staff does not patrol forum posts for bug reports, they like us to submit a bug reporting ticket. Keep your screenshot handy for when they email you so you can show it to them.

I was really hoping you were going to fix the bug for firearms you introduced in the last update, or at least remove the "fix" that caused the bug until the "fix" was done right.

Any time frame for this because it is making playing my gunslinger annoying?

My adjustment addon has a new one called "Weapon Full Attack, ALL or Select" that will cause the gun or any ranged weapon selected to get their full attacks again.

So that is always an option.

Shadowchemosh, nothing against your community add on, but I have had nothing but trouble with those so I don't use them anymore. They break my herolabs more then they fix them.

This is something Lone Wolf broke and really should be fixing.

Huh, that's odd, I've never had any issue with Shadow's add on.

Maybe resubmit the bug report? If they already have it, it would be like an extra shot in the arm or something, just to make sure it doesn't fall off the radar.

In general I don't add community add-on. I was not specifying shadow.
Its all good. I can't argue that yes they will eventually break and need to be tweaked to make compatible with a new version of HL. So if that does not work for you then no issues. Just wanted make sure people where aware of another "option".

Just realize you are making a very sad panda over here. *Sniff Sniff* If your ok with a sad panda that is fine... :( :p

Mostly it is my iPad version that breaks, I still have errors popping up every time I use it from the last community package I added that I can't get rid of.

Deleting packages off the iPad is really easy. You just Left Swipe on the package name and boom its gone. See THIS post about the iPad super pack for removing a package from the iPad.

The only thing that can get saved or sticks around in a .por is the reference to Sources. Open your character in a Window/Mac version of HL. Open the character and go to Portfolio->Strip Missing Sources.

Their is nothing about an addon that stays around that is not easy to remove. If your getting any other error message feel free to copy and past them here and we can help sort them out.

I originally asked for a way to filter by CR before I'd taken a close enough look to realize that the monsters were all listed by CR, but having now used it a bit more, I'd still like to see a way to jump straight to a particular CR so you don't have to jump around trying to find the first monster in the level.

Have you attempted using the Encounter Builder under the Gamemaster menu? You can adjust to the CR you want and then pick monsters that meet the XP budget you've picked.

Try typing " CR 5" into the filter (with a single space both before and after "CR")
