Pathfinder Community Data Sets....

I assume you installed the zip file that Bodrin left attached to this thread?

If so you will need to remove that .user file from your HeroLab\data\pathfinder folder.

If bodrin is really super nice he will delete that zip from this thread so others don't do that and have this problem. ;)

Done!:p

Noob question I just got hero lab. Where do I place the files that are created by the community ?? Also is there a way to tell what people have installed ?

My current data set is the core the APG and both Ultimate books ?

The problem is Ive tried to import .user & or por files but I get a lot of errors. Most are titled bootstrap ? Does the bootstrap mean that something was coded wrong or that Im missing a data set ?

Thanks

At the top of the d20pfsrd repository site I have some instructions for how to install a .user file or a .hl file.
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/extras/community-creations/hero-lab

Only when using a NEWER .hl file can you have HL not only tell you what is associated to a data set but can remove it for you. You do this by going to "Tools->Manage Third-Party Updates...".

Otherwise you will have to simply remove the .user files you put in the herolab\data\pathfinder folder yourself.

Some errors are not really an issue if they are marked about "Source". This means someone could have a user source called "We Be Goblins" when they saved the .por file. So HL is just letting you know that it could not find the same Source when opening up the file. Most of the time it is not needed to actually use the .por file.

Bootstrap issues are more severe and the message should have said going into Recover Mode or Safe Mode. This means HL stopped loading ALL .user files as it found a severe error.

Bootstrap errors for are going to be related to missing an official data set or "maybe" missing another community file (doubtful). Most likely for the AP stuff its going to be missing the Bestiary data set. When creating other monsters many pre-made "Things" from the Bestiary data set are going to get used again do to the Universal Monster rules.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for the quick reply as well. Do you have or have posted tutorials to use the editor ?? I followed the pre made ones but they didnt really help much.

Hello All,

New Updates. :)

Latest Updates 10/20/2011

New Council of Thieves v0.7 (2011.10.20).hl by Bodrin and contributions from Nikmal. This is a .hl file which means it is a Hero Lab Import File. This will make importing of community add-ons much easier. After downloading simply double click on the .hl file and Hero Lab will start prompting you to install the new data set. This importer will install all the files into the correct locations for you.

In your "\portfolios\pathfinder\" folder you will find a new folder now called "Council of Thieves" and inside chapters 1 through 6. These store the .por or character files.

This currently has only chapters 1,2 & 3 finished which is why the version number is 0.7. :)

Download at d20pfsrd in the Pathfinder Adventure Paths folder.

So wanted to point out that cheifweasel has created a bunch of HL Video Tutorials to help out the community. These are available for free to view on YouTube.

Four new videos where just uploaded tonight and I wanted to let everyone know about them.

1) The first one is Managing User Files. This tries to go over starting the editor, creating a new .user file, naming convention, and saving of a .user file. Good place to start.

2) The second video is Creating a Cloak. The example takes a cloak of resistance (bonus to saves) and tries to make it into a Cloak of Protection (bonus to AC). I cover the difference of using New (Blank) and New (Copy) in the editor and a good naming standard for Unique IDs to use.

3) The third video is Eval Scripts and Fields part one. This begins the lessons on eval scripts which is the more advanced part of the HL editor. I also begin to show where to find useful information about the different Things and fields in the HL.

4) The fourth video is Eval Scripts and Fields part two. This finishes up the lessons of writing a new eval script that is capable of adding a +1 dodge bonus to AC.

Hopefully the community finds these useful. :)

Dear ShadowChemosh,

Here's the error info you asked me for.

I put the .user file in C:\ProgramData\Hero Lab\data\pathfinder where I have other .user files (although I moved them all out for this test).

I double clicked on any of the three .por files that are in the .zip and receive this error.

Dear ShadowChemosh,

So I didn't have the newest version of the We Be Goblins data. (Wish the file names had the date as part or a version number). So I downloaded that (version 2) and I still get an error but it's a different error this time.

And as it continues to open I get this.

Thanx,

As soon as you get this first error HL has gone into safe mode and it won't load ANY .user file. So any error after this first one is not that important as its all caused by the .user file not loading.

I have this fixed and have uploaded the new version to d20pfsrd. This is a .hl file which means it is a Hero Lab Import File. After downloading simply double click on the .hl file and Hero Lab will start prompting you to install the new data set. This importer will install all the files into the correct locations for you.

This should also fix your other issue you mentioned about not knowing the files have updated as it will have the date and version number on the .hl file. :)

After the install your "\portfolios\pathfinder\" folder you will find a new folder now called "We Be Goblins" and inside is the .por files.

Download at d20pfsrd in the Pathfinder Modules folder.
