On which platform will Realmworks run ?

I apologize if this has already been told, but I wonder if Realmworks will be made available on the Macintosh computer platform.

I understand that it will run on Ipads.

Not initially. But the plan is to make Realm Works available on the Mac as well at some point *after* we get the Windows version out. Exactly how long that will take is a complete unknown at this point. We first need to get the Windows version developed. :-)

I have a Mac so I knew where to find this from Rob. Believe me, it would rock my world to have this on my Mac.

Thanks, EK!

Also, we do have a number of Beta team members running Realm Works in a virtual machine on Macs, and the product is running fine. So the VM approach is viable as an interim solution. :)

Linux?

Hi,

I found the forums after stumbling upon the Kickstarter campaign. I saw the Kickstarter notes indicating that, as of the last time someone checked, Realm Works doesn't work under WINE on Linux due to lack of support for the .Net 4.0 framework, but this might be changing as 4.0 becomes supported?

Any beta testers out there who can confirm this one way or another? I only run Linux and would love to back the project, but if I can't run it, I can't support the project.

Can anyone confirm if it runs under Linux yet? I saw on the Kickstarter FAQ that it should work under WINE once .Net 4.0 works under WINE. I'd love to back the project on Kickstarter, but only if I can get her working.

If I can get it running on Linux, you can have my money :)

Can you give us an idea on when development for mac might start? What I mean is, is mac development going to commence once the windows version goes live and is more or less stable? or are we going to have to wait 2+ years?

I have other programs that I like to use for RPGs on my mac, so having to use a VM or bootcamp is a non optimal solution.

The honest answer is that I have no idea. There are a number of key factors involved that we've identified but have not spent the time to assess yet. And we won't be making that assessment until after Realm Works is launched and on solid footing under Windows. So we'll be figuring out the answer in the latter half of the year, but right now it's anybody's guess.

I wish I had better information for you, but that's unfortunately all I've got. :(

I don't believe anyone on the Beta team is running Linux. We certainly won't be able to get you an answer to this until after the Kickstarter closes, so I recommend holding off and not backing the Kickstarter if Linux/WINE support is critical to you.

Ok, if I get the software on Windows, when a Mac version comes will everything transfer over? I didn't mess with Herolab until after the Mac version came out, so I'm just making sure.

Jenks, you should consider running parralels on your mac. yes its a VM, but it runs in coherence mode so that the "windows" applications run on your mac as if normal programs. i do it all the time.... i still have to for my work VPN, and until the Mac hero lab i was doing that. i know its not as good as native, but you arent forced to have a vm window like vmware. its pretty decent. you just have to be willing to give some hard drive space to the underlying OS.

FWIW when im given Beta access, i plan to try linux, Parallels and windows (Im one of the "howlers") ill update people.

Rob, you mentioned that you guys tried it (Wine) at one point, but it had .NET 4 failures. Do you know if it was before or after May of 2012? Because in May of 2012, the Wine development team put in a bunch of .NET 4 stuff.

Your data would definitely be able to be transferred across. Since we haven't done a Mac port for Realm Works yet, I'm not sure if it would happen automatically (i.e. the same files being used) or if you would need to run a conversion tool to migrate your data. But you would definitely be able to get your data across, one way or the other.

It was around that time. So I'm not sure if it was before or after the big WINE update.

One can dream :)
Perhaps a lucky beta tester could try this out, or would that be against the NDA?

I used VMware, but it seemed to bog down OSX. Does Parallels work better? As well, do I have to click in to windows every time? VMware had some annoying issues when I was using dual monitors as well.

no, you can run parallels like vmware, and "click in windows each time, or you can run it in whats called coherence mode, which in essence hides the windows desktop and then you can just run any windows application and it runs on your mac desktop. i have certain windows applictions like CC3 act as if they are on my mac. they are even on my dock. no issues with dual monitors as well. the only thing to know is hat parrallels eats up battery when running if you are running on a macbook pro.

FWIW: I dont run Lion, but I've heard parallels runs well in lion. I just dont like Lion.

If you can point me in the direction of a solid WINE installation, I can give it a shot and let you know how it goes.
