Mac version status

First, what are the system requirements? I don't recall seeing them, but my apologies if I missed them. I want to make sure my late 2006 vintage iMac can run Hero Lab; based off the Windows requirements, it should be, but better safe than sorry in case there was a big change in specs for the Mac version....

We have not done any system requirements profiling at this point, so I honestly don't know if your 2006 iMac will run Hero Lab smoothly. What I *can* tell you is that, until this past GenCon, we ran Hero Lab under Parallels on 2006 vintage Mac Minis at tradeshows. It ran great. So if your iMac specs are comparable to the same vintage Mac Mini, you ought to be fine.

Second, I know the Mac version is in beta for all registered users. I use OS X 10.6 exclusively on my iMac. If I buy Hero Lab today, can I use the license code to participate in the beta? If not, and assuming my iMac can run it, I'll gladly wait until release, then buy it.

The end-around suggested by mirtos will work. It wasn't our intent with the Beta, but it will definitely work. :)

Thanks rob. Wikipedia tells me my iMac has a quicker processor and more RAM than the 2006 Minis, so I'm gonna give it a shot.

From their readme file:
1. PC running Windows 7, Vista, XP (with Service Pack 3) or 2000 (with Service Pack 4) or Mac running OS X 10.6 or 10.7 (Snow Leopard or Lion)
2. Internet access (for licensing and to obtain data files)
3. Modern web browser (for example Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, or Safari)
4. 500MHz Pentium III class processor
5. 256MB RAM memory
6. 16-bit color video with minimum 800x600 display resolution
7. 250MB free hard disk space (includes storage for selected data files)
8. Mouse or other pointing device

If you're already running OS X 10.6, you should be fine.

I bought Hero Lab last night for Pathfinder, and I'm loving it. It's running smoothly and well on my iMac.

I have noticed some oddities, though. My Pathfinder player character is a level 4 Aasimar Half-Celestial Bard. I'm the DM, and we needed a fifth PC; there's a reason she's named Mary-Sue....

When I go to print or preview her, the racial spells from Aasimar and Half-Celestial do not appear with either the spell full description list or the spell summary list. It'd be nice to have them there along with all her bardy spells. They do appear on the character sheet as "spell-like abilities". However, on the character sheet, all the Half-Celestial spell-like abilities appear including the ones for levels 5 and above (including resurrection, summon monster IX, etc.).

One last Half-Celestial quirk. They get +4 to three ability scores and +2 to the other three. It's not intuitive, though. The racial, template, and faction ability tab has three drop-downs for +2 to ability scores. I was assuming that the three unselected would be the +4; that is, that you pick which three skills get +2. It's the other way around; all abilities get +2 for a Half-Celestial, and the ones you add +2 to the scores to are actually the +4 ones. I figured it out, but it seems backwards to me.

Thank you for all the hard work on the Mac port!

Edit: Reposting this in the Pathfinder forum, too.

Mac people are willing to pay to beta test :)

Hero Lab Beta: Issues with multiple monitors

I have seen people posting issues with the Hero Lab window "freezing" up on them during use. I have been able to reproduce this issue one way, by moving the program window from my laptop to my external monitor. When I do this most of the menu items grey out for me after I try to perform an operation that brings up a window over the main window, such as Configure Hero. Please note when this happens that the Configure Hero window does not appear but the application acts like it should be there.

If I keep the application on my laptop screen everything seems to work fine though. Not sure why the external monitor is throwing things off.

I will test this some more and post more updates.

Running 10.7.2 Lion on 1.86 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook Air, Hero Lab V3.9a BETA

Found another issue with Mac BETA. When adding Craft (Other), the little icon for the hammer (showing weather or not you have the tools required to do the job) does not appear for me to click so I start with -2 less ability modifiers since I cannot click the hammer to make it blue saying that I have the proper tools for this craft.

The Copy button on the Output Active Hero Statblock dialog does not appear to be working. I can click Copy on both the Plain Text and BBCode tabs, and the dialog closes, but I am not able to paste the text into either TextEdit or Safari.

Also, the option to transfer an item to another Hero in the portfolio (by clicking on the sack icon, then choosing "Give to Hero..." and picking another character in the portfolio) does not appear to do anything.

I am also experiencing the issue mentioned above where clicking on dropdown items does not actually select the item in question. Scrolling via the keyboard and pressing Enter does work, however. Also, I don't remember if the Windows version does this, but it would be *very* helpful to be able to type the first few characters of the item I'm looking for and jump to that point in the list. Some of the lists (for example, the selection for Weapon Focus) are really long, and it would be helpful to be able to jump to the middle of the list as necessary.

Thanks!

I can confirm this as well. I ran into it today.

I was able to transfer items in Pathfinder. I did try to transfer in the wrong direction several times before I got it right.

I've transferred items before with Pathfinder in the Windows version of Hero Lab. I tested this with the portfolio I was using and created a new portfolio as well, and I get the same result. Whenever I use the container and try to GIVE TO HERO, it won't do it. I can drop it to the ground and pick it back up with the same hero, but can't seem to transfert it between the heroes.

What's the item you can't transfer? I don't have a Mac copy, but I'd like to try it in a Windows copy.

If the answer is money, that's a known issue in all versions. The workaround is to but a "-Custom Valuable-" for the correct price on one character, transfer that to the other character, and sell it for the correct price there. The other workaround is to subtract money on the journal tab of one character and add the same to the journal tab of the other character.

Just installed - kudo's guys, and thanks much. I can almost retire one of my virtual machines now...still need it to run Tex Murphy games :-). Seriously, three cheers!

It's any item that I try to transfer. I'm going to boot up Parallels and see if I get the same result with the Windows version. This will allow me to see if it's a problem with the portfolio or the settings I'm using.

Here's a new one I think. When outputting to either of the custom sheets for pathfinder from the update menu, the weapon names are missing. I get 'masterwork' but not longbow, and +1 but not keen longsword.

I just found a new one...adding curses to armor, the application acts as if the window is open but i can't find it. i think it might be buried under the main hero lab window and i can't access it. i can escape out if it, but thats all.

My copy in Windows transfers items between characters in the same portfolio that the Mac version doesn't allow. This works for new portfolios as well as existing portfolios.
