Mac version status

I experienced a lockup last night after running the update for the Community Bestiary dataset. I clicked the update link to start the download, then switched back to my web browser while it finished. Once it was done, i hit install, However, when the installation finished, the program never returned control to the main window, and I was not able to interact with Hero Lab. After a few minutes, I had to Force Quit and restart the app.

After Force Quitting, the update had not been applied; I redownloaded it again, and everything went fine.

Nothing happens when I choose Launch Editor.
Same when I restart.
This happens under Pathfinder and under M&M3.
I originally was able to do so, but after fooling around with my own .user files, it stopped opening. I'm not sure what caused the malfunction...

I've now run into this as well. Mac OSX 10.6.8 / HL v3.9a Beta.

- ran in to this bug last night
- was able to restart HL and editor and finish the SW race / character I'd been working on
- saved and compiled the .user file, saved the portfolio, quit HL
- put the macbook pro to sleep (closed laptop lid, left external monitor attached)
- woke up macbook pro this morning and opened HL
- loaded the same portfolio
- clicked Launch Editor in the Tools menu
- no response

Even after restarting my macbook and HL I'm getting no response from Launch Editor. I've used expose, command-tilde, spaces, and even detached/re-attached external monitor to see if the editor is just hidden, but as best I can tell it's simply not starting.

I imagine that uninstalling and reinstalling the software would require fiddling with my license?

I can live with this for now, but would like to know if the issue is understood and just waiting for the fix. Cheers.

EDIT: I have also tried opening another Game System (Shadowrun) and the problem persists.

Using Savage Worlds system, some instances of quotation marks are displaying as a question mark.

The attached screenshot shows Command Presence edge description pane with question mark symbols where double quotes should be.

This is not entirely consistent. For example, the Florentine edge uses proper double quotes throughout.

The problem is rampant in the Super Powers Companion descriptions.

Found another glitch in the Mac version of Pathfinder 6.12. Whenever I try to select the weapon for Weapon Focus using the mouse, it does not select the weapon. I can use the arrow keys and the enter key to select it. Using the mouse has it simply roll up the dropdown select box without anything being selected.

I noticed when adding multiple copies of an item, the 'total to pay' turns purple but doesn't update to reflect the new total

I'm not sure if anyone's actually reported this or not (I didn't see it on the last three pages of posts), but the Mac version behaves very oddly when dragging the window around while any kind of modal window is active. This includes the "Select a Game" screen when first launching it.

Specifically, dragging the main window leaves the modal one behind. Opening a new one (such as by clicking the "Find Updates" button) recenters it onto the background window, but again you can drag the background without the inner one.

This is on OSX 10.6.8.

I downloaded the Mac Beta today on to a G5 Mac Pro OSX 10.6.8 system. It was a non starter. The application installs and loads but immediately displays a Hero Lab error message
"Unexpected error creating font 'editscript': 0000044c"
The some of the menus drop down are greyed out and they are all inactive. The program doesn't Quit on Apple +Q or menu Quit. I can Force Quit but the Application doesn't show as "Not responding". Only a Restart got me out.

Anything I can try to get it running properly?

FYI - we've released an update that fixes some of the issues reported in this thread (though not all of them), and adds support for OS X 10.5.

MuzzyHeel, please email me at colen@wolflair.com and we'll look into your problem. Thanks!

Some clarification that might help: the issue with the user not being able to select items in a dropdown list using the mouse seems to be dependent on the number of items in the list. If the list is short enough not to have a scrollbar, I am able to select items normally. If it does have a scrollbar, however, anything I select just causes the list to disappear with no selection.

I am seeing this behavior even in version 3.9b

Here's an interesting, albeit very minor, bug:
When I am adding spells to my wizard's spellbook, each time adding a spell would causes the "spells in spellbook" dialog to add another line, the "Choose spellbook spells" dialog gets moved down a little. After a few times, this causes the buttons at the bottom to fall off the bottom of the screen, and I have to drag the dialog back up in order to close it.

This is obviously not a major problem, since I can just drag the window back into position, but I thought it was rather amusing!

Two bugs for me.

I can't transfer from the main character to a secondary (like mount, pet, companions and/or familiars). I have seen that one.

Another that I have today was that Hero lab has apparently eaten 'hl.xml' twice today. Don't know what happened but I would start the program..have that error pop up..then I'd reinstall and it would do it again. Not sure if the fact that it collapsed on me friday and might have taken that file with it when it crashed.

Export to d20Pro is still allocating the wrong file name with a ".*" after the extension. Not a biggie, but more a PITA.

don't know if this has been seen or not...when making a pathfinder character (with restrictions), spefically a bladebound magus, once i hit forth level the ability count starts going funny. at 4th level it says i have 7 points to spend (out of the 20), then at 5th level it says i have spent by 2 (if i spend the 7). i then leveled to 12 and it says i have 9 over spent but if i calculate it myself i am at 20.

I've never used HL on Windows so I don't know if this is the expected behavior but going for "Re-activate License" without having previously saved the portfolio I was currently working on didn't warn me that I was going to lose all the unsaved modifications. There should either be a message prompting the user if they want to save unsaved modifications, or the portfolio should be saved automatically (the first solution seems better).

That aside Hero Lab is a great application and I'm really glad you've finally ported it to Mac OS!

I seem to be having the exact same problem with the version of the Mac beta I downloaded today. I have an iMac 7,1 (2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) running Mac OS 10.7.3.

I was able to play with the Editor earlier. I used "Launch Editor" maybe three times with the Editor window appearing and being responsive, but the fourth time I tried, later on, no Editor window would appear. The only thing I remember doing between the time it worked and the time it didn't was to use the Help menu about the Editor. I tried restarting Hero Lab and the computer to no avail. Removing the preference files did nothing either.

Does anyone have a workaround to get the Editor to reappear?

Beta Bug: Mouse over windows stay in foreground after command-tab to switch apps

If you mouse over a question mark icon to display the details for an item and then, while that window is still up, command-tabbing to different application will keep that detail window floating over the new application. The only way to get rid of it is to tab back to Hero Lab and move mouse.

I don't use Windows so I'm not sure whether it's a Mac-only issue, but Shock Shield (Alchemist 1 extract) does not seem to appear in the list of Spell Adjustments whereas I can add it to the extract book. I've had to add an Other Adjustment (Armor Class) to emulate it.

Selecting the spell "Lore Legend" off the Bard's spell list crashes the application.

(Using Mac OSX 3.9 Beta, discovered on level 4 Bard, reproduced creating a new bard)
