Hero Lab on Android

Yeah speculation based on information.

They posted an ad for a Web developer in Hero Lab circles. Not Realm Works circles. That tells a story IMO. One that I'm very interesting in reading.

We also know a Ui rebuild is under way.

It is advertised on all their forum pages, both HL and RW; as well as on their RW facebook page.

While that is true now... it wasn't at the time of posting. FB post went up on the 10/03 on the Hero Lab page and didn't appear on the RW page until the 21/03.

The same happened with the forums.

now if one had followed the other on the same day it would mean nothing. But 11 days later? It's almost like they were only thinking about HL at the time of posting and RW was an afterthought.

I'm just guessing obviously...

No need to guess. It's in the first paragraph of the job description:

Veteran Web UI/Front-End App Developer description said:
The right candidate will play a pivotal role in the evolution of Hero Lab, spearheading work on the next generation of our software.

The only mention of their other products on that page is in the blurb about the company at the bottom.

ObTopic: If you want a portable way to run LWD's products, get a Windows laptop/tablet/convertible. I've liked my Android tablets as light media consumption devices but I much prefer a device that can run all of my software.

Yeah, I have a windows convertible laptop that I bought, just don't like the windows touch interface.

For Hero Lab I like being able to mix and match between touch and keyboard+touchpad/mouse while having the full application available. (The touchscreen doesn't go away just because my convertible is in laptop mode.)

Webapp isn't my favorite choice for further UI development, but it's popular these days. :(

I hate it because so many places don't have Wi-Fi (at least to which I'm willing to connect a device).

FYI, just because you develop an app in HTML5 doesn't mean it requires Internet access...heck, technically it doesn't even require it to run in a browser...

Perhaps they are choosing technologies to build a uniformed UI that will work across all devices/operating systems? Then have a backend that could run said UI possibly in a browser/phone/pc/etc.

It's all speculation at this point.

Ugh. I'd STILL like HeroLab viewer for my affordable Android tablet, and refuse to buy an overpriced iPad just for access to ONE freaking app... :(

Will never happen imo. They have Hero Lab Online now for mobile requirements. Still lacking the game systems but it's the future.

So, I use Hero Lab on my desktop for Pathfinder character generation and tracking, but would love to use it on my Galaxy Tab at the gaming table. As far as I can tell, the only Android access is through Hero Lab Online, which only supports Pathfinder 2? Will original Pathfinder ever be available?

They have stated that Pathfinder will be available this quarter for HLO.

Too bad I a) Mainly only care about D&D 5e support and b) sometimes actually play in a location with no wifi available. :o 9_9
