Feature request

That would of course, work - its just a matter of what is the optimal solution. I suggested many years ago the ability to have a portfolio reference a character from another file - this would be, frankly, and awesome setup, if it was implemented - it would allow each player to have a portfolio set up that includes just their own character (plus companions/minions/etc), and then also allow the GM to have a portfolio that contains everything. It would require dirty file detection and auto-saving to actually work - but imagine the possibilities.

All files are accessed from a shared source.
GM has a portfolio with all characters, good or bad, plus loot characters, etc.
Each player's portfolio only shows their own characters.
When a state/pick is changed on a character, no matter while user is looking at it, the change is saved out automatically, and the change detected by the others who have it open, and it is refreshed there.
This would allow near-simultaneous viewing by the GM if live stats, inventories, skills, etc. It would allow moving items between characters from locations the players cannot necessarily see (like a special store of unidentified items, for this particular use case).
Defiantly not going to say that is not COOL and of course I would love to use such a system. And maybe one day we will even get it. But until then I tend to stay within the confines of what I now works! :)

@Portilis yea if it was that many then I honestly I would go with a simple situation where its really easy to identify magic items. They pick it up and boom they know what it is. Heck many DMs I know use that even when its only a few magic items to track. ;)

Even if I made an adjustment to "hide" the item name etc you would end up with dozens and dozens of adjustments on a character it sounds like. You would really need some type of checkbox next to the magic item to mark it as Unidentified.

Yep, to get it done perfectly would definitely need LWD involvement, as it would require said checkbox.

I've done an adjustment that replaces the item name with "Unidentified X" where X is a descriptor based on the relevant item slot/type, and changes the description to be just "Identify DC Y".

My aim will be to create a mechanic that adds a configurable which lists the items on the character and tracks whether they are identified, but it's nowhere near the top of my to-do list for HL scripting atm.

I'd like to see some tweaks for the adjustments. Right now, I'm using the Weapon Melee Damage Die to adjust a custom weapon I made - I got tired of trying to remember what Kinetic Blade (from the Occult Adventures Playtest, Kineticist class) ought to be in terms of power, so I've been jury-rigging it. Unfortunately, changing the damage die is jumping me from 4d6 to 6d6 when I want to set it to 5d6. I could use the override, but that seems to take out connectivity for things like Power Attack.

Perhaps having one option for die size and another for die number would work better? I'm not sure exactly how this function is programmed, and I might be missing something obvious that would let me do what I want, but a few tweaks on this would be appreciated.

Bump Bump! With the new iPad Pro, landscape mode is the standard mode especially with a keyboard attached. I would say it is finally time to add this feature. I hate that I have HeroLab for iPad, yet I use it on my computer to create and maintain my character, and then export my character into an excel sheet or pdf fill-in form on my iPad. :(

My brother is a GM and one thing he'd really like is a refresh button for an entire party, not just one character.

The refresh for the day button is good, of course.

But it would be faster if there were a button or option that would refresh an entire group or party all in one go for a day.

For myself, personally, I'd like a sort of "template" feature.

So you can make template of, say Wizards, that have your favourite gear and spells and all that. Instead of creating one completely from scratch.

All I have been doing is making POR files with unnamed characters that I can import into another POR file and complete there.

If there is some sort of character template for your favourite stuff that I've not yet found; I'd like to know what it is.

Have you tried selecting "Import Stock Hero..." in the "Develop" menu? You can scroll down to the NPC Codex and pick a suitable NPC.

I did not know about that feature, actually!

Thanks for pointing that out. Lots of things to choose from there!

I guess you could make your own "rogue's gallery" POR file importing from there, eh?

Yes easily. Under Portfolio menu is import from .por. Not near HL so can't remember the exact wording. Update: "Portfolio->Import Hero From Portfolio".

But that same menu is how you would get multiple "characters" into a single .por file.
