I've been trying to find info on the site, but does CardVault work on any Mac OS?

Nope. (Not yet anyway.) Your best bet is to get Virtual PC.

As stated by others, CV is Windows only at this time. I *THINK* that CV
will run fine under both VirtualPC and SoftPC on the Mac. It did awhile
back, but I have not personally tested it since then.

I would appreciate it if anyone who has access to a Mac would verify this
to be sure. Also, if anyone on the Beta team could test V1.1, that would be
awesome. It would give me certainty when answering questions like this in
the future, since I hate being wishy-washy about stuff like this. :-)

Thanks, Rob

I've used it in Demo mode on a Ti400 OS X 10.2.4, 768MB RAM, using VPC 5. It's slow, but that probably has more to do with the 400MHz than anything else.

As to a Mac version I wouldn't think this would be impossible. Certainly moderately non-trivial, but given that most (all?) of the data is provided in XML all that is really needed is the UI, and a local DB backend for non-XML data; the inventory and decks (?). Even some of the UI appears to be XUL-based.

I thought I saw, a very long time ago, a blurb on the site indicating that a Mac version was in development. I could very well be misremembering, though.

Rob, I'm sure you have a slew of talented people available to assist you with this great product, but if you'd like to discuss what would be necessary for a Mac port I'm available.

David Glass

Thanks for confirming that CV works under the emulators!

You're correct that a Mac version is definitely possible. The real question
is one of practicality. My guess is that rewriting the UI for the Mac would
take a good Mac developer a solid 6-8 months, plus a couple months for
porting the engine code (which is relatively portable), plus reasonable
testing time after that. So my guess is close to a year's work. There are a
total of four of us here, with only two developers, so we don't exactly
have lots of spare resources. :-) Quite the contrary, as we're spread quite
thin and not able to do all the things we'd like as quickly as we'd like.

Another option would be to contract the project out, but the investment of
paying someone for nearly a full year of development needs to be justified
with sufficient projected revenues over a reasonable timeframe. CV is still
in its infancy as a product (with a big leap once V1.1 comes out), so its
definitely premature to be going down that path for a Mac version.

Once CV has reached a critical mass user base under Windows, we can start
to look at the possibility of writing a native Mac version. In the interim,
a substantial percentage of Mac users that are gamers also have a PC or use
an emulator in order to run their favorite PC games, so that will have to
serve as the short-term solution.

I definitely appreciate the offer to help out, but we're not yet at a point
where it makes sense to pursue a native Mac version.

Thanks, Rob
