Birthright For Pathfinder for HL

A possibility is using something similar to Dragonmarks from Eberon. That could cause balance issues also though. Setting up a series of archetypes might be a good way of doing things, though with HL that would mean one for each power, for each class.
To break into this with some different thoughts. My recommendation is to NOT go with Feats or Archetypes. Instead use a Configurable and either Custom Abilities or Racial Custom Abilities. Bootstrap the Configurable to a new Birthright mechanic.

This allows for a "new" tab to appear when a person turns on Birthright. This new tab would have the ability to add Custom Abilities tied to the configurable. This way you don't have to worry about class specific archetypes or "new" feats showing up.

In addition each Custom Ability can have Pre-Req scripts to check for "race, class, deity, alignment, etc.". This gives you lots of flexibility without having to duplicate so much work for "each" class.

For something like this look at Eberron Campaign Setting in the community Pack. Specifically look at the "Region of Origin" tab.

HERE
is a link to the configurable on GitHub.

HERE
is where it is bootstrapped to the mechanic.

To see this in use you can install the community Pack and turn on the "Eberron Campaign Setting" and turn off "Hide Region of Origin". You will see the new tab appear which is the Configurable.

That was something I was looking at actually Shadow, I really like the idea of a separate tab. That may take me a little to fully understand though. I agree that it seems like a better idea than archetypes or feats for sure.

I will look into the details and see if I can come up with a basic idea for such a tab.

Did not read the whole thread, but thanks for coding Birthright, noticed you were planning on adding a Noble Class, There is one made by a 3rd party publisher, its not very expensive, you can get it legally at sites like drivethrurpg Hope I am not breaking any rules by posting that line

Thanks, Bilwar, the Birthright 3.5 conversion I am using has its own Noble class written up, just needs some updating to Pathfinder. Which publisher does the one you are referring to though? I may take a look but I would need the name of the book or publisher to find it.

I am having a problem with my updates not showing up through the dropbox link? Is something broken or am I doing it wrong?

I export the update in HL and then replace the original in my dropbox. The update is not showing up on the list though. Any help would be great.

I just tried your link and I was able to download the Birthright.hl file. The only thing I see if that the .hl file downloaded is v1.0 but the updates.xml says its v1.1.

You sure you replaced the "Birthright.hl" file with the new v1.1?

I think I keep messing up on the update version number, would that affect it not showing an update for me on my iPad say?

You would always be able to see the link to download. The version would just be adding the red ! in front of the download. In example if you have v1.0 installed and the updates says v1.1 is available then HL adds a note about needing to update.

But the download should always display in the list of options for the iPad. I just double checked the updates.xml you have posted and platform="any" means the download will display for Windows/Mac/iPad.

Sarelth,

Can you give a quick synopsis of what your content actually provides? Blind downloads are something I try to avoid, but would like to see your stuff.

Thanks.

ShadowChemosh, it shows up for me, just when I updated it I never got the Red Updated marker. But I have noticed Dropbox has been updating really slowly lately, so it could be something to do with that.

Quintain, There are 2 groups in my file. The first is the Birthright campaign stuff I have been working on slowly (It is a conversion of a 2nd Edition D&D campaign similar to Kingmaker).

The second set is called D20 Despot, it's me adding things from a blog I follow into HL mostly for my own use but I thought some of it might be useful to others. It is for the most part monsters, though it includes some weapon changes.

Some of the monsters include such things as Argonauts (Nautaloids), honey badgers, Melusine (Kind of a variant evil mermaid), Togbin (Turtle humanoids that hunt most other races for fun), Perinin (Rabbit humanoids that get hunted a lot by Togbin, but have learned to fight back), Spinosaurus, Chindi (Restless spirits that were not laid to rest properly), Embalming Ooze (an ooze that turns those it kills into a pickled zombie), Pickled zombie template, as well as a few other things.

It also has a feat line for polearms and a ranger style based around polearms, with additional polearms.

Ok, awesome. And as Silveras can attest, I'm very familiar with Birthright from back in the day. I'd love to see what you have done. I've been wanting to run or be in a BR campaign for a long time now. It was an awesome idea.

In this case my question would be is the Third Party ID value you are using really "open game content"?

In the updates.xml you have a element called special="open game content". That wording of "open game content" has to match to the Third Party ID you setup/entered in the HLExport tool.

If those two values don't match "exactly" then HL does not know the installed package has been updated. HL works off of "ids" not names to match up. :)

ShadowChemosh, okay, so since the product is called Birthright, the 3rd party bit has to say birthright then basically, to over-simplify things. If I called it BRCS it would have to be BRCS and not like BR or something else.

Quintain, I have been using the 3rd edition and 3.5 edition conversions from Birthright.net to make the Pathfinder conversion. I am trying to keep it close to the original stuff but was thinking of adding Kingmaker bits into it also.

Correct....

Here is the Pathfinder Pack updates.xml:
Code:
<update name="Pathfinder Pack (v1.9)"
  date="2017/06/18:1215"
  size="23244"
  description="Community created all in one download!" uniqueid="600" filetype="3"
  platform="desktop"
  download="http://www.shadowsoftware.net/herolab/d20pfsrd/Pack_Pathfinder.hl"
  website="http://forums.wolflair.com/showpost.php?p=202418&postcount=3"
  companyurl="http://forums.wolflair.com/showpost.php?p=202027" priority="99"
  major="1" minor="9" patch="" folder="pathfinder"
  [B]special="PathfinderPack" [/B]
  dynamic=""/>
You can see the "Special" line is "PathfinderPack". This is the same text/value I enter into the "Third-Party ID" section when making the .hl file. This then allows HL to link up the .hl/addon installed with the updates.xml data. It then says is the version installed less than the major/minor values listed in the updates.xml. If TRUE then show the user a red ! and a message that updates are available. :)

I am not having any luck with this update file. It's just vexing me.

This is the error I keep getting.
