Anyone able to update lotr system

Winkmog

Member
Hi' is there anyone able to update the lotr system?
I have found several errors and mistakes on the current one which need adjusting.
If anyone can help to maintain the system it would be very much appreciated.

The following things need updating or adjusting.

Corsair Bo'sun basic points cost should be 45 points not 50

Mordor Troll description of war drums currently says it effects orcs, uruk hai and trolls. It should say orcs, mordor uruk hai and trolls.

Magical power Immobilise/Transfix description currently says If he wins a combat he will strike. Should say if he wins a combat he will not strike.

Warrior of the dead should have an option for a banner costing 25 points

Knights of Dol Amroth should have option for horn blower costing 20 points

Galadriel magic description to cast immobilize should be 3+ not 2+

Legolas needs the option of armour costing 5 points

Elf warriors currently have hand weapon set in their basic profile. Elf warriors should be unarmed on the basic profile.

The following new figures for LOTR need to be added.
Gundabad Blackshield Captain (Goblin)
Gundabad Blackshield Shaman (Goblin)
Gundabad Blackshields (Goblin)
Gundabad Blackshield Drummers (Goblin)
Cave Drake
Floi Stonehand, Loremaster of Moiria (Dwarf)
The King's Champion (Dwarf)

Many thanks

So, I didn't realize these files got orphaned so I decided to try to get some of this stuff fixed and updated.

This appears missing from the Tranduil's Halls list which in LoME is specifcially omitted. LoME FAQ indicates that when discrepencies exist between LoME and model profiles, that Army List takes precedence. As such the Armor for Legolas is not allowed in a Thranduil's Halls list until that list is updated.

Elf warriors currently have hand weapon set in their basic profile. Elf warriors should be unarmed on the basic profile.

I assume this is based on the ORB model entry that indicates no gear on Elf Warriors, however the ORB also indicates that all models are expected to carry a hand weapon of some sort, unless specifically listed as model is unarmed(such as Corsiar crossbowmen). Additionally updated elf profiles and army lists all indicate a hand weapon is included in the profile, so I believe this is also accurate

Thankyou!

Hi jlong
First of all i would like to say thankyou very much for taking up the upkeep of Lotr sbg datafile. It is very welcome! :D

Thank you for updating what i have found so far. A speedy job.

I used the ORB and all the latest sourcebooks. I don't use the lome book as it's very out of date with info and profiles. I always thought what ever the latest book says takes presedence over existing info.

Im currently working my way through each scourcebook looking for differences. So far i have only done Gondor in flames.
I have found another 10 or so errors or out of date info just from this book. Would you like me to write them here or send you a pm?

If you need any info or stats for the new figures please let me know. im more than happy to help with supplying stats and info to keep this file updated.

Many Thanks
Winkmog

Post em up here for now. I am not setup for updates. Colen is checking with the last maintainer to confirm he is in fact done. I have all the books, so stats are not an issue, but if you find errors, please give me the details(list in), and where(book and page) you have the difference in stats or info.

Thanks

All completed with the exception of the defense stats. The reason for the defense as listed is due to shields which if dropped(for whatever reason) would eliminate that extra point of defense score. I am trying to figure out though if there are any rules which support the need for both values, otherwise the final value can simply be used. I think its mainly an issue with mounted units and units that have both shields and bows.

Oh yeah, additionally, it appears your review is for the 'free peoples' list only. Please note that LoME is still the default book standard for army building. Its rules are only overruled by more current [army lists], not more current models. The LoME lists have several instances where all the available model options are not present. This is an attempt to stay both within the timeline of play, as well as for game balancing. As such, I have updated your examples for the free peoples list, however the army specific instances that continue to omit those options have been retained.

I am hoping to get the final touches done in the next few days to add the missing units, and then plan for a week of testing. My goal is to get the next release out for 3/15.

Harad differences

The following differences i have found in the Harad sourcebook:
Very sorry if this one is confusing!!!

War Mumak of Harad page 13
Special rule Awesome Presence, Fearless!, The Crew are missing.

Mumak 5 special rules and descriptions are missing for the move phase
Mumak 2 special rules and descriptions are missing for the shooting phase
Mumak 5 special rules and descriptions are missing for the combat phase

Im guessing for the above rules that there wont be enough space for all of them. And it would take an age to write them all out.
An option would be to create a special rule called move phase rule with a description saying please refer to page 11 of Harad scourcebook or pages 52 , 53, 54 and 55 of the orb.
And do the same for the shooting phase rules and the combat phase rules.

Equipment: Mahud should say Mahud Beastmaster Chieften. Special Rule and profile stats are missing for this character.

Not sure how your going to add this or if it's even possible? As this is a seperate figure. Maybe leave it as an equipment option and for the description just put please refer to page 13 of the Harad scourcebook or page 158 of the orb.
Or create a new figure profile called War Mumak of Mahud which would be identical to the first but instead of the haradrim chieftens profile below the Mumak have the Mahud Beastmaster Chieftens profile. Just some thoughts.

Dalamyr, Fleetmaster of Umbar page 15
Smoke Bombs description currently says If he wins a combat he will strike. Should say if he wins a combat he will not strike.

Watcher of Karna page 17
Special rule Steely Nerve missing and description.

Mahud Warrior page 19
Defence is 5 not 4/5

Mahud Raider page 19
Defence 5 not 4/5 also
Camel is missing and description
Special Rule Impaler missing and description.

Hope this all helps :)

Hey great to see someone picking up the LOTR torch. I notice also that Goldberry and Tom Bombadil are not in the lists.

I have just finished adding them to my set and it was a bit of a task to work out how to do it. They have a lot of rules about not having Goldberry without Tom.

I would love to get you rupdated fileset. Though.

I am still working on updates. I will probably be making another batch of updates this week and sending to my Beta Testing group. I am hoping to have a 3-15 release of updated files.

One thing to note. While I do like the format of the current files(several rules are included) remember that these files shouldn't ever be a replacement for owning the actual rules. As such, it's likely that exceptional rules(like the Mumak, One Ring, etc...) may simply refer you to the main rules and provide the page#. This is to help simplify the datafiles as well as protect myself from GW IP issues.

There are several ways to do this with rule set validation, however it's likely not already there since Tom and Goldberry are non-tournament models. I do like having the full list though and will endeavor to add them as well, but indicate they are not tournament valid.

Here's another thought(one of which I like, but will take time to fully implement).

In my review of the current files I have noticed that gear is used to modify stat values. While this is good for the models buying that gear, the models that come with it as standard are listed initially with lower stats than their actual correct statline.

What does everyone think about this? Should I list the statline as indicated in the rulebook, or continue as current with statlines being updated when added to your army roster? Mostly this affects the Defense stat.

I prefer your idea to follow the statline from the rulebook.
As sometimes when im creating an army i like to click on the strength, defence, attacks heading to list the values from highest to lowest. And always found it strange that after i dragged the figure into my list the value would change.
