Perhaps.... but the thing that's keeping me playing 4e and not 4a is that I have a functional character generator for 4e

Follow along with the video below to see how to install our site as a web app on your home screen.
Note: This feature may not be available in some browsers.
I hope it will be easy to implement house rules.
Examples:
Character advancement with BP and not with Karma
Different costs for Adept Powers
Is there a reason to change out of the creation mode?Your first request is a fundamental change to how character advancement functions, and I'll keep it in mind as something to allow down the road (especially if we get more requests for it). You may also be able to get it to work to some extent by switching your character between creation mode and advancement mode - stay in advancement mode most of the time, and when you have more BP to spend, switch to creation mode, increase the character's starting BP and spend it as if you were still creating the character, then switch back to advancement mode.
Yes, Character advancement would be with the same (linear) cost as in Character generation. You will be able to change all of the Karma and BP costs that Hero Lab is using, but the problem is that increasing an attribute would still have a cost that is a multiple of the attribute value, and I'm guessing that your system has a fixed cost per advance, so just changing all the Karma numbers to be identical to the BP numbers wouldn't help.
Great! That sounds like I could create an (at least partial) data set for not supported races. (ie. Runners Companion)Your second request will be something you can do easily - there is an integrated editor within Hero Lab. Using that, you can copy one of the existing adept powers, change the cost for it, then set it as a replacement for the original version. Once you've set up all your replacements, they'll all be in a single file - you can email that file to the rest of your gaming group, so that their copies of Hero Lab have those same price changes.
FrankTrollmann said:It is undeniable fact that the Karma system of advancement fits rather poorly with the Build Point system of character creation. Some things that you might buy with BP cost more BP than they would with Karma (ex.: buying your Strength to 2 would cost 10 BP or only 6 Karma), while others cost tremendously more Karma than BP (example: buying a skill from 5 to 6 would cost 4 BP or 12 Karma). That leads to very real and very large discrepancies between characters who min/max their initial BP and those who don't. And frankly, that's bad. We want people to make organic looking characters rather than worrying over much about BP/Karma efficiency or any of that crap.
There are two obvious ways to deal with that. You could either make people create their characters with Karma in the first place, or you could make people advance their characters by gaining additional BP. The former has optional rules which are either available from Serbitar or in the upcoming Runner's Companion, and you are welcome to use them from either source. Personally, I prefer to use the smaller and more linear numbers of BP Advancement, so that's what gets written up here...
Is there a reason to change out of the creation mode?
(Btw.: If I remember correctly, Karma Generation will not be in the initial release, correct?)
