Quick Update on Hero Lab Online from GenCon

To those of you doing so, please stop posting assumptions and give us a chance to answer questions. We just got home from a crazy GenCon barely 24 hours ago. We're all exhausted. Some of us are sick from the "Con Crud". And I stated at the top that we would be providing answers this week, AFTER we got settled back in. Give us a chance to do that. Please?

EDIT: For everyone else, please don't interpret the assumptions of others as fact and draw conclusions based on those assumptions. There's plenty of wrong information in this thread. We'll get you actual answers shortly. THEN you can weigh in with your opinions on how this is all going to work. Thanks!

Thanks, Rob. It's good to hear that much of the speculation is wrong. I don't see you as the kind of person who would intentionally alienate your longest-standing customer base.

Unfortunately, the answers I promised will be a little late. 
I'm extremely sick after getting home from GenCon - ah, the misery of "Con Crud". I'm in no state to write up anything even marginally coherent right now, let alone clearly articulate the details of what we're doing for HLOnline (and, in some cases, why). And there's also no way I'll be able to competently answer any of the follow-up questions that I'm certain will arise. So please accept my apologies on the delay, and I'll get everyone answers as soon as I'm clear-headed enough to do a decent job of it.

Gen Con, spreading illness and making you wonder why you attend for 50 years! I too am sick, I'll go approve the pending posts but I won't be much help mentally till likely Monday.
Definitely Con Crud... had the same thing happen with a group of friends a few years back at GenCon... We all attended the Con, pretty much ate at the same places, were all staying at the same hotel... 2 days back from GenCon all of us (save 1) were sick for 3-5 days (as I recall).
Hope you guys get to feeling better and are back grinding away at the millstone soon.
As for remedies, I always go with chicken soup and cold juice... Good luck!

It's really hard to not panic, between what Online means in our heads based on other companies that have taken their software "online", and I asked alot of these questions of you all at GenCon, and the answers didn't fill me with any sense of reassurance, in fact, I'm more freaked out now than before. It pretty much sounds like HL is a dead product, destined for only maintenance patches, and all efforts will go to HLO, which is 100% unacceptable to me given the fact our FLGS we play at has no wifi so we can't use it.
Dropping a bomb like Online on us, with ZERO details on what it means, or how it would work leaves us with just our imagination for answers,.... and as you may have noticed, thats not a good thing.
this is my question. also are you going to support the desktop app with new datasets and game systems?

A quick update! I just finished a nearly 2000 word FAQ for everyone, but it's 2am where I live and I have to be awake at 7am, so I'll be posting it some time tomorrow after a quick edit. I apologize for the delay, I wanted to get everyone info asap but the virus I acquired at the con really slowed down my processing speeds.

I've spent a... let's just say, considerable amount of money on Hero Lab so far, having bought dozens of different packages. However, I'm rather allergic to subscription fees.
Would WLD be willing to have a lifetime buy-in, allowing those of us who are heavily invested to just pay once and not have to worry about future payments, even if the price is exorbitantly high compared to the monthly subscription price?
I, for one, would love to have such an option so my allergy doesn't flare up constantly.

Assuming the FAQ on Facebook is canonical (as it is the marketing director one hopes so) there is a lot there that is just not cool.
Lack of offline play is a death knell for me. Virtually every con I've been, and most stores don't provide WIFI, and at least in the case of cons have poor to no cell receptions for tethering. The whole point of hero lab on my tablet / PC is I can show up with a stable of characters and pick the right one. But with online only as a requirement I'm just not going to touch it.
