GenCon news?

We met with the Paizo team on Sunday at Gen Con. I'd love to tell you all the details, but it's in our best interest not to announce details of any possible business deal until things have been signed. However, I can tell you that the door has not been shut on Pathfinder content in Realm Works.

Hasbro went with Fantasy Grounds. Will Hasbro think they need more computer gaming tools than what Fantasy Grounds provides?

Negotiating digital content rights with publishers can be a tough nut to crack. Publisher’s, in general have a tough time with digital rights management and sales reporting versus print. Print is safe, tangible, print can be lost, print can be damaged, and can be discounted from an obscene list price.

I just thought it was odd that there's been virtually no news from GenCon from any company, where there's normally masses of announcements.

According to Mike Mearls in a GenCon interview:
* The license for Fantasy Grounds is not exclusive, so potentially other platforms can license the content from them. (meaning WotC)

Some assumptions above require clarification.
In general, the only companies who actually sign something at GenCon or other such events are the small ones. For sizable companies, meetings and discussions take place at GenCon, but any contracts must still go through lawyers, so nothing gets signed at GenCon. And, in the case of Wizards, they don't even send people of sufficient clout to GenCon to actually attempt to work through licensing details.
So nothing of major note typically gets signed at GenCon (unless it's more of a ceremonial signing after all the lawyers are done in advance of GenCon). And even that's not possible for anything with Wizards.
This is pretty much the case nowadays. There will be a few announcements, here and there, but not many. And the necessity for all the lawyers in any contract preclude actually signing anything that isn't already fully hammered out prior to the show.

Something to consider...
There are a LOT of companies with digital tools who all view D&D 5E as a huge opportunity. I know of multiple that have been actively courting a deal with Wizards. In our case, we've been talking to them in earnest for about two years now. Thus far, exactly ONE company that I'm aware of has actually signed anything (FG).
There may be inferences that can be drawn here...

Quite apart from content announcements (I'm an AD&D 2e player and don't expect anything in that direction) part of me was hoping Gen Con would be the time for an announcement about browser access.
Sigh. I haven't yet convinced my players of the wonders of RW yet, and browser access could be the thing that tips them over.

We were showing off a development preview of web-based access at GenCon. This was announced prior to the show, and we had quite a few attendees asking us to see it. The response was extremely positive.

Re: Realm Works Web Client: What I saw wasn't that different from what they showed earlier this year.
They did show a WIP dialog for better control over aliases/names (hiding them individually, picking defaults when matching, and such) but it's not hooked up yet. It'll be useful once it is, though.

For my play group to adopt RW, with more than me as the GM, there must be pathfinder material available. Aside from me, all the three other GMs in our group use canned APs from Paizo (yes we have four experienced GMs, we rotate every 18-24 months for new campaign).
If RW stays the current course it will be used by myself for the next campaign and shelved for many years as I build new campaign for my next rotation. If we see the Pathfinder rule set, Pathfinder campaign world, and APs for sale on the marketplace, I am 100% sure we would see adoption for all GMs.
Until then, its just my baby for my two campaign worlds.
