I tried everything and I just can't figure out why the print to pdf is not working.
I get an error message: "Setup has detected that a product which uses the pdf plug-in is currently running. Please close all products that use the plug-in before you attempt to install this updated version." help? |

Hero Lab is the product that uses the pdf plug-in. Click off of the installer, close Hero Lab, run the installer, and then re-open Hero Lab. Or save the installer as a file, close Hero Lab, and then double-click the installer to launch it.

How do I run the installer without opening Hero Lab? I get the print to pdf file from the update button in Hero Lab. |

When the installer is running and giving you the error message HL is still 100% usable. They are two separate programs. So when you see the error message close done HL. Tell the PDF installer software to "retry" and the install will finish.

Had the same question - was able to install. Running in CrossOver in Ubuntu. Runs fine, but the output is crunched and missing text. Any ideas?

Unfortunately, we've had trouble with emulators and printing before - sometimes, they don't actually use the same assets that windows uses for the same purposes, and the substitutes end up not working well.

As an alternative, you can try a third-party PDF printer. There are several you can find and download. PrimoPDF is a popular one.
Just watch out for piggy-back installs. If you just click all the way through with the OK buttons, without paying attention, you might end up with software you probably don't want like the Yahoo toolbar or something. So just pay attention during the install and uncheck the options to install unwanted software. It installs as a virtual printer. So when you print a document, you can select the PDF printer instead of your physical printer. Then you'll be prompted for a file name. |
