Trying to install the 12.8 HL update on my (older) apple ipad 2. Goes to a black screen and drops to desktop. Tried hard booting and nothing. Any solutions?

Have you cleared all running apps from memory? Sounds like an out of memory crash.

Didn't work, tried freeing up space as well. Gets all the way through the download and dies. iOS 9.1 if that helps.

Are you downloading in the app? If not can you download the file from the web page and try importing? It is possible the iPad 2 may finally have reached the point of not having enough memory to support the app. But I think I saw Colen say somewhere recently that up coming update may reduce memory usage a lot on the iPad.

*NOTE* I do not own an iPad and am mostly doing suggestions I've seen elsewhere or coming up with ideas from stuff in my IT background.

Think your right about it being a memory issue, suspect my ipad 2 just can't support it any more.

but i'm wondering if the updates going to do me any good, if I can't download it without crashing

Well I'm talking about an update to the app, not an update to the content, they are two different downloads. One from iTunes one from Lone Wolf

Correct iTunes will update the app. I have access to the beta version and I can report it uses up allot less memory. I was using an iPad Air but still it was very noticeable especially when switching between HL and other apps.

In addition the new version appears to be much more stable so far. Best I can say is wait and see how this new version works out for you which should be "soon".

Soon of course anytime from today to 6 months from now.

The only way I was able to get my older iPads to update was to delete the HL app, reboot the ipad, re-download the HL app from the appstore and then run the dataset update. I tried it several other ways and the app would just hang as it tried to download the 12.8 dataset update. But it did work....eventually.

Me: How bad could it be?
Him: What's the worst that could happen?
