I'm thinking I must be daft on this one. I cannot figure out how to apply an archetype to my familiar. I have built a test case wizard, added the familiar, chose monkey, and on the familiar's class tab, chose archetypes. The three archetypes show, but are all invalid options. The invalidation text reads:
The archetype may only be selected by characters with a familiar. What am I doing wrong here? |

Bah.. figured it out. I was trying to add the animal's archetype to the archetype section of the animal. It instead needs to be added as a alternate racial trait on the Minion tab. Seems sorted, though it does give a warning if adding the master's archetype at anything higher than level 1, which isn't necessarily correct for the classes that can take a familiar at a later level (magus via arcana, rogue via trick, etc). If the warnings are ignored, though, they go away once everything is selected properly.

The warning goes away.
Evil wins because good rolls poorly .... or the players are not paying enough attention to the game. |

I'm reviving this thread because I'm having issues with an archetype for my familiar.
I've created a wizard and selected my familiar (mongoose). When I add the archetype "valet", I get an error message that states "You must add this archetype to both the master and the familiar in order to get the full effects". Ok, so I go back to my wizard, but I don't see where I can add this to my wizard. |

UGH, never mind. Found it. For anyone else who looks, it's a class archetype.

The Emissary archetype doesn't show up for the familiar. Am I missing something?
I'm looking on the Minion, "Add Alternate Racial Traits & Animal Archetypes" |

I did... I wanted to double check with the public. I didn't want to put in an invalid report.

All I did was double check the minion section like you did and I didn't see it. As it should be there I assume its a bug not showing up. Only LW can peek/see under the covers. I'm new to the forums and the bug reports. I didn't want someone to say... Why did you submit that report? All you need to add is the cleric blah blah book. Thanks again!
