I've been using HLO 32 bit for some years -- the last update installed the 64 bit version, without any prompting or selecting.
I'm told now my license is only a demo license -- nothing I've tried seems to successfully boot up the 32 bit version, even when I select it from the start menu. Is it possible to just continue using 32 bit, or is it mandatory to purchase the 64 bit license to continue using the product? |

I am pretty sure you are talking about HLC (Classic) not the online server.
Both 32bit and 64bit use the EXACT same license. You do not have to purchase anything to use the new version. Start 64bit and reactivate your license and do the same for the 32bit version also. Once you do that everything will work like normal and I recommend using the 64bit as its works much better for large game systems like Pathfinder.
