I wanted to give some important information as the weekend is coming and more people will be installing updates to HL. As of v6.1 of HL on the Mac installing third-party packages like the Community ones install incorrectly.
You will get the following error message on the Mac. You must answer NO to the following message! Screen Shot Lord Magus.png Hero Lab on the mac is misinterpreting the *.1st, *.dat, *.str files as "read only" and deleting them. Most of the community packages use these files as special control files and without them you will get error messages like those listed in HERE. Thanks to Lord Magus for helping to diagnose this issue. It appears by answering "NO" to the above message the install goes correctly. This issue is not affecting Windows or iPads currently. Hopefully this helps with those that will be doing updates this weekend for games. What should we do if we already answered YES and are getting errors now? The way this error message was written, NO did not seem like the right answer when I encountered it. Thanks.

Unfortunately, this did not fix the problem for me. Re-downloaded all the files but this did not resolve the issue.

Can you re-post the errors you are getting here? Also let me know which community packages you have. Lets see if it changed anything....

Here are the errors...
I have the Community Bestiary, all of the Frog God Games Content, SGG Package, ShadowChemosh Adjustments, CB Mythic Add On, and Ultimate Psionics The data files could not be loaded due to errors. Hero Lab will now attempt to load them in recovery mode. Once loaded, you can access the editor as normal to correct any errors. If you have already clicked YES, and you utilize OS X's Time Machine feature, and you still have backups dating from before you installed the new HL version, then it's an easy fix. Here's how to do it:
-Open Time Machine -Select a date prior to when you installed the HL 6.1 update. -From the window that opens, select "Applications," and then locate the HeroLab app. Right-click on the HeroLab icon. -Choose "Restore Hero Lab to..." -When prompted to choose a location for the restored file, choose the Applications folder. -A message will appear saying a file with the same name already exists there. Choose "Replace." Your Mac will replace the current busted version of the app with the previous working one. -Open HeroLab. You will be prompted to reactivate your license. Once that's done, you should get a notice that a new version of HL is available. Download it and install as normal. -Open HeroLab again and run the latest Pathfinder update. That's when you'll get the above prompt. Click NO and the install will proceed and all will be right with the world. |

Great idea. Unfortunately, I didn't have Time Machine configured.

In the other thread, Shadow posted a zip file that could be useful to resolve the problem. I used that file at some point during my experiments, early on but I cn't remember exactly when.
In my case, after the PF files were deleted (I initially answered YES), I re-installed the PF files, then used the Manage Third Party Updates tool to delete the packages that were throwing errors, then re-installed those packages (but answered NO when prompted as to whether I wanted to delete all the files). It seemed to do the trick. |

Kept re-downloading files and re-installing them and it finally worked. Thanks for everyone's help.
