Weapon Mods showing up in Ranged and Melee weapon lists

I've made some weapon mods that are themselves weapons. Everything works except for one small wrinkle. They show up in the Add New... window.
Is there a way to make it so they don't show up on those screens but still show up in the mods/accessories screens as well as being shadowed to the appropriate area?

I was thinking it would have to be done within a Render script, but I've no idea where to start to even look for examples of this.
 
Why not let them show up there? Is there anything that prevents you from buying a bayonet and using it on its own, even if you don't own a gun to put it on?

Also, being able to show up as a normal weapon, on its own, is a necessary thing if the character decides to remove the bayonet from his rifle, then sell that rifle, buy a better one, and move the old bayonet to the new gun.
