A new update of the Mutants & Masterminds Third Edition files for Hero Lab is now available from the automatic updates mechanism within Hero Lab.

This update adds the Gamemaster's Guide and the Supernaturals Handbook, as well as some bug fixes.

Here's the change list for this update:

Enhancements & Changes
  • Material from the Supernaturals Handbook has now been added to the dataset, including new archetypes, equipment, and the corruption mechanics.
  • Optional rules and equipment from the Gamemaster's Guide have now been added.
  • Supporting characters from the Gamemaster's Guide have been added as stock characters.
  • Maneuvers are now listed on the in-play tab, along with their maximum modifiers when applicable.

Bug Fixes
  • Temporary adjustments on the adjustments tab were causing the in-play tab to show as invalid.
  • Improvised Tools was marked as a combat advantage.
  • It was possible to reduce the PP cost of a power below 1 PP with flat cost modifiers.
  • Comprehend (plants) was costing 1 rank instead of 2.
  • Custom descriptors weren't displaying correctly on the printed character sheet.
  • Area (perception) now costs 2 PP/rank for sense-dependent powers.
  • The Density extra on Growth wasn't eliminating the penalty to active defenses or applying its speed penalty.
  • Defensive Roll was applying its full bonus when the character was defenseless or vulnerable.
  • Elongation now adds to grabs.

I've already submitted a bug report for a typo which gives "missing sources" error:
"One or more required sources are not accessible for hero 'Construct - Giant Robot'. Subsequent errors may be the result of this problem.
Critical information not found in data files: Source 'Supernatual Handbook'"

Any way to fix it myself in the meantime?

"<source source="Supernat" count="1" name="Supernatual Handbook"/>" is inside the files. I'd try saving a current file and look at the sources there (they're ZIP files, so anyone can unzip them and look at the XML files), but I never bought the 3E material.

Ah. And the actual culprit is "<needsource source="Supernat"/>". If you unzip the stock file, remove that line from all of the characters (presumably, you'd need to replace it with the correct value for actual Supernatural characters), and then rezip the file, it's good.

Expansions are $20. :) That's a bit pricey for a gift to a random stranger.

Incidentally, the latest update also broke the 2E stock portfolios, turned on the "Alternate Powers as -1 Flaw" entry.

To quote Steve Krug:
You don't need to find all the problems. In fact, you'll never find all of the problems in anything you test. And it wouldn't help if you did, because of this fact:
You can find more problems in half a day than you can fix in a month.

You'll always find more problems than you have the resources to fix, so it's very important that you focus on fixing the most serious ones first. And three users are very likely to encounter many of the most significant problems related to the tasks that you're testing.

Temporary solution to the stock portfolios issue. I only have a single file to check, a 2E one, at my current computer, but this application should let you input a set of source tags into the textbox separated by commas (no spaces after the commas! Sorry) and click the button. Select your stock files and hit OK and it should set the "count" of those sources to 0 for all characters in that file.

The usual boilerplate, I am not responsible for any damage done to your stock files... please back them up before trying this.

You've got a good point. The code I posted was not in the least robust. And... it's not working now. I know that I did these conversions before and had no problem. *sigh* I must be missing something here...
