Upgrading Unique Items

Is there a way to upgrade unique items in HL? Specifically, one of my players has a Dagger of Doubling, to which he wants to add some additional magic weapon properties. But the vanilla Dagger of Doubling in HL is not editable. What I ended up doing was simply creating a magic weapon property called Doubling (and added the item description to it), and made it cost 8,300 gold (the 10,300 listed for the DoD, minus the cost for a +1 enhancement bonus, and added it to a regular +1 Dagger. But that seems an unnecessary amount of work, if the actual DoD can be edited somehow.

On a related note, if I stick with just making doubling a weapon property, what are people's opinions on whether it should still apply only to daggers, or if it should be allowable to any melee weapon, thrown weapon or manually-handled ammunition (such as arrows), provided it can be wielded one-handed? Just a thought.

Do a New Copy vs the dagger you want to copy. Then do New Blank and manually copy each setting from the copied dagger to the New Dagger. Then make your changes to the new dagger.

You can even open up two Hero Lab programs at once to allow the copy and paste to go easier. This done so that you can copy a single item like this but its way to hard to copy a whole book.
