Unindentified Item Possible?

H2Os

Hello,

Is it possible to give a character an item that they can't see what it is? I've had more than a few failed identify item checks but the characters still carry the item around and it's hard to decipher what's been identified and what hasn't.

Could you just add a "Custom XYZ" as a temporary placeholder? That seems like a pretty straightforward solution to the problem.

It's possible to add a custom weapon, custom armor, custom gear, or whatever type of item it is. You could name it in some basic manner (e.g. "Unidentified Sword"). The character could even equip/wield the custom item, although it would have no effects applied (as GM, you would need to adjudicate any impact the item has). When the PCs finally manage to figure out what the item is, it could be replaced with the proper item on the character.

Hope this helps!
