Talent Error with Slayer Archetype Sniper

Cards77

Well-known member
I noticed an error while building a Slayer. If you select the Sniper archetype at first level, then add the 7 levels, you only get 3 talents to select instead of 4.

Selecting the archetype merely replaces track at first level, and gives an additional ability at 2nd level. There is no indication that the Sniper 2nd level ability replaces a slayer talent:

Thus at 8th level the total would be 4 slayer talents:

Right now HeroLab is only allowing you to choose 3 slayer talents at slayer level 8, if you choose the Sniper archetype.

Sorry I am new to HL, i just purchased yesterday and I now see there is a way to report PF bugs and I have done so. This post can be left here for discussion if the moderators would like. If not, it can be deleted as this issue now has a ticket number. Thank you!

Slayer archetype and things that get replaced

If you go to this link it will bring you to a table that actually shows what is being replaced.
As you can see in that table. The slayer talent obtained at second level is replaced. So you end up with only 3 talents.
The actual archetype (page) is missing the clause that is mentioned in the book that it does replace the second level talent

I see that it's implied that it replaces the 2nd level slayer talent, however that conflicts with Paizo language about archetypes:

"All other class features of the base class that aren't mentioned among the alternate class features remain unchanged and are acquired normally when the character reaches the appropriate level...."

There is no mention of talents at all in the description of either sniper ability.

"class features that are not specifically replaced function as described in the original version of the class."

They just need to specifically say that Deadly Range (Ex) replaces 2nd level slayer talent.

It does do that in the book. As I stated in my previous post:

The actual archetype (page) is missing the clause that is mentioned in the book that it does replace the second level talent

Aka this is an oversight on D20PFSRD and even on PRD (unless it is erratad after the first print. Dont have have errata at hand currently)

Just checked the errata. They did alter the ability so indeed you are correct

Is this the errat you're referring to:

Page 120—Replace the Sniper archetype’s Deadly Range
ability with “Deadly Sniper (Ex): At 2nd level, when the
sniper makes an attack against a target who is within his
weapon’s first range increment and completely unaware
of his presence, that attack ignores the 30 foot range
limit on ranged sneak attacks, and if it is a sneak attack,
he adds his sniper level as a bonus on his sneak attack
damage roll. After this first attack, the target is aware of
the sniper’s presence.” In the Stygian Slayer archetype’s
Weapon and Armor Proficiency section, in the final
sentence, remove “weapon and”.
