Strange error messaage

Hi folks, hopefully this is the right place for this.

Trying to start hero lab gave me the error:
"Error loading preferences file: 'C:\programdata\hero lab\herolab.prefs'
Reason: Preferences file uses unrecognized character encoding"

After that it loads hero lab in demo mode. Any ideas?

Make sure there aren't any HL updates to download. I know I remember a warning that characters created or saved using a recent update couldn't be opened by those without the update, although I'm not sure if this is the error message you would see for that problem. If not, please contact support@wolflair.com
