Startup Error After Update

I run Windows 7, 64-bit. I run the computer as a non-administrator account for day-to-day usage. In the past, when I've updated Hero Lab, I have to login with my administrator account, do the update. And then launch Hero Lab so that it can compile all the files. Then I can logout, log back in as my normal user, and run Hero Lab just fine.

However, with the latest update, dated June 16, I did all of that, but my normal user is getting an error when launching Hero Lab:

"Cannot create core run-time file: c:\program files (x86)\herolab\Data\pathfinder\core.hlz"

Help...

Thanks

That error will occur when Hero Lab tries to compile the data files for a game system and is unable to do so due to not having Administrator privileges to the "Program Files" folder. Hero Lab will recompile files automatically whenever there is a change to the data files that needs to be incorporated. So perhaps you neglected to recompile the Pathfinder files when you updated Hero Lab or perhaps you changed something within the Pathfinder files that triggered the need to recompile.

An easy solution to this issue is to simply launch Hero Lab with Administrator privileges. You can do this without having to log out and log back in. All you need to do is right-click on the Hero Lab shortcut you normally use and select the "Run as Administrator" option from the menu. This launches Hero Lab with Adminsitrator privileges for this one time only. The next time you launch Hero Lab, it will default to normal access.

You can configure Hero Lab to *always* run with Administrator privileges by right-clicking on the shortcut and select Properties. Then go to the Compatability tab and check the "Run as Administrator" option.

Hope this helps....
