Hi Colen,

having recently acquired a Sister of Sigmar Warband I have a question
and an answer.

Firstly under the prayers of Sigmar you have a quote saying "Test each
shooting phase you want to use the hammer, no I don't know what it means
either - Ed"

I think it simply means that you must test against the spells difficulty
every shooting phase, not just your own shooting phase. It is if you
were recasting it in every shooting phase, including your opponents, if
you wish to use it in HTH that turn. If for some reason you didn't, or
you forgot, you would not receive the benefits of the prayer. It would
probably be simpler just to say the prayer lasts until the beginning of
the next shooting phase (yours or opponents), since this the actual
effect.

Secondly and totally unimportant, the Auger is given the option to take
a 3rd dagger, seems strange as to why she would want to, any reason I'm
missing as to why that option is there?

Excellent point, sir! I'll add it as a note.

The free Dagger doesn't count as a close combat weapon. I don't know why
you'd want to have 3 either, but it's allowed.

Actually, in the Mordheim rules, no model of ANY warband is ever
allowed more
than two close combat and two ranged weapons. This is a game general
rule, I
don't have the book sitting here with me to quote you a page number and
all
that but I am sure you can find it on your own :)

To paraphrase Tuomas Pirinin, the designer of Mordheim, "We play that
the free dagger does NOT count as a close combat weapon". Who am I to
argue with such people? :)

I would disagree, that the free dagger doesn't count against the limit.
Why else would they have made rules for fists, which applies when you
lose a weapon, to a disarm of some kind? If you had an extra dagger you
could just use that instead. The only difference from a second dagger
is the price.
Also remember that Skaven with Tail Fighting CAN have 3 close combat
weapons.

play it this way," he tends to get priority over every other

Fair enough. However since the Mordheim rules are the sloppiest, most
ill written and ambiguous of rules sets since the first edition of
Epic, around here we tend to ignore anything and everything from Tuomas
until confirmed in the rules of an earlier game system written by
someone other than he.

Not necessarily, since you don't actually have to take the free dagger
just because it's free, it's optional.

regardless, like I mentioned in an earlier post, the mordheim rules are
at best the most abiguous set of rules from GW ever so you are required
to play by your house rules most of the time anyway. And since Colen
mentioned the free dagger doesn't actually count as a weapon I will go
with that optional rule.

So, I guess you've never played Warhammer Fantasy then, eh?

Compared to WFB, you'd think the Mordheim rules were written by a staff of
lawyers, they are so tight. :-)

Not that comparing any rules system to the travesty of WFB is valid or
anything. :-)

No, I haven't ever played WFB. I bought them, and after a first read
through decided never to waste my time on them. Hell, I bought far more
wfb crap than I'll ever use to "play" with (anyone need some bret
knights, or archers, i've got roughly 64 and 150+ respectively, along
with other misc. brets) but there is always good source material and
the stories were a fun read during the dry spell between some of the
fantasy series I read. I just expected more after the near miraculous
clean up of 40k3rd (or maybe it's just that the improvement from 40k2nd
to 3rd was such a big step that anything as fast and loose as mordheim
bothers me). Of course, I might have been impressed with morheim if
actually got involved in WFB more.

Also, GrailKnight, I know full well that Tuomas wrote the rules for
mordheim, but I wouldn't let him write a memo if *I* had anything to
say about it. Lets hope he never takes a liking to the 40k universe.

I play WFB, W40K and Mordheim...all the rules seem to be written under
a different chemical influence. ;)

By far, WFB rules are the heaviest, most cumbersome. At this point, I
am more or less waiting on WFB's next edition. I am enjoying Mordheim
and 40K for now.
