Show Work for Skills

I am trying to find a way to show all the work when adding ranks to skills. Often times, I am ending up with a skill total much higher than I think it should be.

A couple of times, I found that I had forgotten to add something (like 1/2 rogue level to Disable Device), but I'd really like to be able to see all the modifiers that go into a skill's total score.

Currently, it just shows "ranks" and I have to guess at the rest. Is there a way to make Pathfinder HL show its work?

Example, I am currently building a 7th level Gnome Sorcerer. She has a Dex of 14. HL shows her default Stealth skill of +6 (without any ranks). She does not have any feats or traits that add to her Stealth.

I count +2 for Dex and +1 for size for a total of +3. Where does the other +3 come from? Is there a way to make HL show all the modifiers?

Small size gives you a bonus of +4 to Stealth.

That being said, being able to mouse over a number and see the formula would be a nice feature. But we have learned at our table to just trust the program in most cases. All the players and DM use HL so we are all using the same math so it is a wash in the end.

What I would really like to see is the ability to break a skill out for special situations. Some traits, feats, saves, etc have a flat number but a second number for limited conditions. (Like a dwarves save vs poison or magic... or a rogue getting a bonus to perception vs traps.)

Duh! Small +4 to Stealth! Thanks, I should have caught that. You make a good point about "we are all using the same math so it is a wash in the end". I will trust the program.

However, you also make a good point about conditional bonuses. (dwarves, etc). And yes, I do think it would be nice to mouse over and see the formula. Put that on the wish list for features, I guess.

Thank you for your quick reply, Thazar!

These have both been on the wish list for features for a while. The problem is that implementing them - finding and changing EVERYTHING that needs to say what bonus it's applying, is probably a week's worth of effort for each project (modifier history tracking, situational bonus tracking). That's why they haven't been implemented yet.

Hi Mathias,

The more I use Hero Lab the more I love it! I understand that this feature would be a pain in the butt to implement, but good to hear I am not the only one who thought it would be useful.

Thanks for such a wonderful tool, and keep up the good work!
