Shadowrun update!

It will be many months of work and testing. We don't have a release date yet. Please see Colen's earlier posts in this thread (#14 and #19).

You may have misinterpreted what we said. We've been discussing the possibility of an HL data package with Catalyst for a long time, and they've always been really enthusiastic about it. We've always been agreed on what the license would say, and did so for months before we got the agreement signed. The issue was just fighting the red tape involved with the license changing hands (WizKids -> Topps, etc) and the aftereffects that bogged everything down.

I don't think there was a misinterpretation, I was told the same exact thing at GenCon last year.

I was told that the Data Sets for Shadowrun where almost done and all they needed was a contract and then shortly after that the Data set would be released. I made sure of that because Shadowrun was one of the main reasons I bought it a GenCon.

Either he was out right lying, or he was grossly misinformed. Trust me there was no misinterpretation.

I am more then a little upset that it is going to take alot longer then it has already taken to get Shadowrun, especially after being told otherwise. I know you guys can't control the problems that Catalyst Game Labs had, but you could have controlled the maybe right out lies*Maybe just someone really misinformed* at last years GenCon.

The *license* for Shadowrun was "almost done" for a long time. However, the data files were never started, as it would be silly to invest heavily in development of something for which you might never end up getting the license. It sounds like the confusion centered on this important distinction - possibly by the person you spoke with in our booth.

If you've been waiting for Shadowrun all this time, then I assume you haven't activated your license yet. If you'd like, we can issue you a refund for the product. To do that, please provide me with the license number and access code found within the product packaging, along with your name and address. We'll deactivate the license and send you a check for the purchase price at GenCon last year.

Note! Please send the above information to me at helpdesk at wolflair dot com. Please do not post your license information publicly on the forums.

Shadowrun was One, of the Main reasons... not the Only reason. I have still gotten use of it through the Pathfinder Data Set, and plan to use the White Wolf and Cthulhu data sets. I could have used the Shadowrun Data set as much as I use it for the Pathfinder Set. Though I own the other 2, I have had no use of them as of yet.

No refund needed.

Having just purchased this for my savage worlds game I can't tell you how much I want the Shadowrun rules integrated for this wonderful program. Please keep us updated on your progress.

What is the status on this? There hasn't been any news on this since I don't even remember. I would have thought to hear something after Gencon, but nothing has surfaced.

The license was signed only a couple months ago. At that time, we already had a full slate of work through GenCon - and a bit past. We'll be starting work on the Shadowrun data files shortly. Given the complexity of the Shadowrun system, it will take us 3-4 months to develop quality data files. So we're striving to release them around the end of the year timeframe.

I would like to hear how things are going on the SR ruleset and if it's possible, could we get some general information on what you're considering implementing in the initial rules set with regards to the five core books (if any) and what will come along in later datasets?

Thanks,

Ed

We got off to a slower start on the Shadowrun data files than we had planned. Our original goal to get something completed before the end of the year was overly optimistic. So we're looking at a release in Q1.

The initial release will contain everything in the core rulebook and many of the mechanics from the various supplements. However, it's likely that a reasonable amount of the content from supplement books will be made available as optional add-ons - similar to the way things have been done for other games like M&M and Pathfinder. The specifics are a long way from being decided, since there are a lot of factors involved and we also need to discuss them with Catalyst.

Important! This is just my "best guess" at this relatively early stage, so it's all subject to change. We'll let everyone know the details when we get close to release and everything is finalized.

Thanks for the update! I am really looking forward to the SR package for this program. Keep plugging away at it, I know the end result will be top notch.

Please either come up with several different character sheets (one for heavily cybered characters, one for mages, another for riggers, etc) or give us the ability to customize our character sheets by moving panels around/ resizing panels, etc... Shadowrun characters tend to have a great need for this.

Take a look at some of our other games in demo mode - you can view the print preview for the character sheets, so try comparing some very different characters, and see how the layout adjusts for each. We'll have the same sort of logic built into the Shadowrun character sheet/sheets.

Perhaps... but right now I'm licensed for the Dev kit/4e and I REALLY wish I could customize what the printed character sheet looks like. I expect it's some kind of report type of thing... with 12 years in BI I so badly want to fire up Crystal Reports or something and customize that character sheet for readability and usability.

As I am preparing for the upcoming Shadowrun game I am struck by how much I am looking forward to the new dataset for HL.

I know you anticipated releasing it sometime in first Quarter 2011 but if you all could move up the timetable and release it by this coming Tuesday I'd be really grateful.
