Renew of Licensing Fee

I have been a long time supporter/user of the Army Builder program and I now have my first major complaint. It deals with the licensing section of Army Builder 3.1,. When I purchased my third license for the computer system I build for my roommate to use, I also extended the license out to January 2006. What a surprise when my roommate states that he got a message stating the license was going to expire and needed to be extended.
So with out checking I extended the license out to 2008. Army Builder should have update this information from Lone Wolf's server when I upgraded from 3.0 to 3.1,. I understand the hard work put into Army Builder and to the people who code the data files, as I have to deal with Unix code on a daily basis at work. Maybe this could make it way as a upgrade to a future version of Army Buider. Alright I climb down off my soapbox now.

I just checked your license information and found three licenses, one primary license and two secondary licenses. The license group has been extended for two years, resulting in an extension until January 2008. All that is exactly as it should be.

The additional secondary license is tied to the primary license. It has all the exact same behaviors, including the expiration date. The purchase of an extra secondary license is a one-time thing. After that, simply extending the primary license automatically extends ALL of the secondary licenses, so that third license you obtained entails no extra fees ever again. Doing it this way keeps everything clean and simple, plus is keeps the costs minimal for our users.

Starting about 30 days prior to license expiration, AB will begin warning the user. This is done to give the user ample time to extend the license without interruption. Every license will do this, so a user with three licenses will receive the warnings on all three computers. My guess is that your roommate simply encountered it first.

Where I'm confused is your statement that AB should have updated the info when you upgraded. What info should have been updated? The expiration details are included in the keyfile that AB retrieves wheen you activate your license. Until you initiate the activation process, AB will continue to have the old data. Unlike some other companies out there, it is our philosophy that AB should never perform an internet retrieval of information that you have not explicitly initiated or authorized. Therefore, once you extend the primary license, you'll need to run the license activation wizard again for each license to properly update it. After that, you're good to go.

Please explain in more detail what you think should be added to AB and/or how you think things should be changed. We're constantly working to improve the product, so tell us how you'd like to see things work and we'll see if we can make that happen.

Thanks, Rob

Rob,
At the time I purchased the third license I also extended my original license for a year. If I still had the documentation for this purchase I would have posted the info from that doc.

OK, I understand that you did both. However, they each had to be done as separate orders. I checked our records, and the additional secondary license was purchased in October, while the extension was done wihtin the past 24 hours.

I still don't understand what you feel was "wrong". I need your help to understand it so that we can look into making an appropriate change.

The following excepts are from the receipt email that is sent as part of every online purchase from us. This applies to both the license extension order and the additional secondary license order.

----- Begin Excerpts -----

- ELECTRONIC LICENSE EXTENSIONS -

If you have extended an existing license, that license has now been updated on our server. You will now have access to future updates for the extension period (typically one additional year from the original activiation date). No further action is required on your part and no additional information will be sent to you. If the license reports as "expired" within the product, please run the license activation wizard again to update it. If you wish to verify the extension, you can do so via the License Administration website at www.lonewolfdevel.com.

- ADDITIONAL ELECTRONIC LICENSE PURCHASES -

If you have purchased additional secondary licenses for an existing license, the license has now been updated on our server. No additional information will be sent to you. To utilize your new secondary license(s), please go to the License Administration website at www.lonewolfdevel.com and select the corresponding option to obtain a secondary license. This will issue you the license number which you can immediately utilize on another computer.

----- End Excerpts -----

Was there something confusing in the above information? If so, please point it out. If I'm completely missing the point, I need you to provide me with more details in order to understand the problem.

Thanks, Rob
