Renaming .user files

JustinThomason

I have about 6 or 8 .user files I created in the editor to cover some feats and magic items. I realized after the fact that I should be using a better naming convention to keep my house rule files together for better management.

Is there any way to change the names of the .user files without screwing up the Portfolio they're being used in? I don't mind doing a little leg work to make it happen, I just wanted to get a "best practices" sort of approach before I start screwing around with anything.

Thanks.

I don't believe the names of the .user files matter at all. Just the unique ID's of the things in them. Also, it is probably best to just run all your house-rules in a single user file.

The user files themselves are XML files, so if you are familiar with XML, you should be able to open them up, and copy and paste your 'things' into a single .user file.

In any case, you should be able to rename the files all you want, and just recompile, and it shouldn't affect any characters.

I combined all my various user files into a single HouseRules.user file, and it seems to have worked fine.

My fault for not understanding that the editor allows multiple Things to be edited in a single .user file. All in all, it makes a lot of sense to do it this way rather than having lots of little files floating around.

Thanks for the assist Fuzzy!
