[SOLVED] Remove unwanted .user files

I removed a bunch of .user files from my HeroLab folder and now a couple of my older characters spit out a screen of "Critical information not found in data files:" errors. How do I fix these without re-adding the .user files?

Just dirty up the portfolio and re save it.
By dirty up I mean add a space onto the name then delete it.

Once you save the errors will disappear, however you might want to check that nothing's missing from the character first!

Hope this helps

Was there another error report - one that you got when you launched the Pathfinder files, and before you opened that character? Does it say that Hero Lab has gone into safe mode?

If so, right-click on that report, copy it's contents, and paste it here. The very first error report you encounter is the one that's reporting the underlying problem - all the rest are just reporting symptoms caused by that problem.

No. The only error I get is this:

Just to be clear, the instruction bodrin gave you will only stop the error from being reported on that character - it will not stop the report from appearing on any of the other charaters you've saved unless you repeat the procedure for them, too.

You opened the character (and saw the error messages).

Then changed something (and un-did the change).

Then saved the character.

Then closed the character.

Then re-opened that same character, and you got the error again?

Yes, I have been using this character in a ongoing campaign and have made changes for the last year. I removed the user files like 4 months ago and still get these errors.

Let me check with Colen. That should have worked, but it isn't working on this file. Maybe something was modified in HL as to how it deals with sources that you have checked (the

In the mean time, I just deleted the source lines in the .por file and saved as a different name so I have the original when you have it fixed. Thanks for the help so far!

Portfolio Menu...Strip missing sources

(the reason it doesn't stop reporting errors for any sources you had turned on before the .user file was removed is that the most common reason you'll encounter this is when one person who owns package X emails a saved character to another person who doesn't own that package. The other person changes the file, then emails it back. If we were to remove any record of those sources you had turned on, but Hero Lab can no longer find (which is what needs to happen in order to remove the error messages), then that source would be turned off when it got back to the original sender).
