Reindexing? Best way to tie in topics?

All right, so entering my own copy of Rise of the Runelords like 75% of the folks here.

Here's an interesting thing I'm running into:

I started entering dungeons first, I found it easier to get the hang of the program like that.

So, Enter dungeon main area.
Put lvl 1 map under that.
Put each room under Lvl 1.

No issues.

Going through, I finished entering Thistletop and noticed that every time I mentioned Nualia It should be linking to her, except that I didn't put her in first. Oh, well, let's go ahead and put her in....

Erm... Now the only way I can think of to get the program to link her automatically, would be to edit, add a space, save, then the program goes ahead and put's all instances of her and links them automatically.

So, while, yes, it's not important for EVERY SINGLE time her name is mentioned in the text to be linked, how would one best go about getting such a thing to happen?

You do run into the issue of which items do you create first.

Would reindexing solve the issue? is there another tool for this? Or, do I assume correctly that you have to have a thing set up in order for it to automatically grab said thing.

Which I guess could also be solved by creating it as soon as you first mention it?

Weird issue, I know.

Yes, there needs to be a Topic to link to. The way they intend you to work is to use Ctrl-Q (Quick Create) while you're working on your Topic to make Topics that you want to link to but don't already exist. That way you won't need to go back and rescan affected Topics for links.

You don't have to go in and edit the Topic to add the links. Once you've added the missing Topics, go to the Topics that should link to them, pull down the Options menu for the Topic (or press F7) and pick Quick Edit Content/Scan for New Content Links....

You do have to rescan in every Topic that needs new links, though.

All of the above applies for Articles too, I just got sick of typing Topic(s)/Article(s). :)

Hope this helps.

As I have been entering Skull and Shackles AP into RW. Doing so I have learned to start with the back Appendix of each chapter. This means I enter the named magic items and named NPCs first. Then I quickly go through and find any named things (ie Islands, forts, ship yards, bays, specific named ships).

Finally I start with entering each Event/Encounter. I have found doing it this way means that 99% of what I need gets linked as I enter the events/scenes.

Its sort of like working from the most fine to the most coarse granularity.

Yeah, that's what I ended up doing for RotRL.

After realizing what was going to happen with links to other topics, I decided to put in the new magic items and Ctrl+Q anything that's going to be a new topic, then moved onto putting in the town. Hoping to have Sandpoint done by tonight, then get into the NPCs, then move back into putting in the actual adventures.

(We will finish chapter 1 next game, then take a full session to do character upgrades like crafting, planning, leveling, etc... before moving onto the next module. That'll give me a solid month to get more stuff into RW)
