Red minion and classes tab on default mount

[ SOLVED ] Red minion and classes tab on default mount

Hi everyone,

This is my first post, so I apologize if this has been answered elsewhere -- I wasn't able to find the solution when searching the forums.

I added a default mount (light horse) to a character. When I switch to the mount, the Minion and Classes tabs are both red. I'd like to fix this so the character validates, but I'm not sure what needs to be changed.

Can you help? TIA!

if you click on those tabs you should see something in red text as well. you just have to select something there. like the mount i just added, on the classes tab it had 0 hp's so each level of the mount was red. i just had to enter a hp value for each level and that got rid of the red. minion tab its most likely requiring a race to be selected.

Thanks for the suggestion psych -- I've attached a screenshot. It doesn't appear that I can select a race. Any idea how I can change that? I've tried adding a new mount of type Light Horse, but it suffers the same issue.

You do understand you added both a Light Horse normal and you have a Light Horse as an Animal Companion. Do you really want/need two horses? The RIGHT side of the window shows you all the different "Characters" that exist in your one portfolio.

Most likely you don't want both. So remove the one on the "Other" tab from your main character. Then switch to the Animal Companion and click the Red Triangle "!" symbol in the top right corner to see the things you need to complete on the Animal Companion. Most likely Hit Points, Skills, Feats, and Tricks.

The Animal Companion (Rex) is a wolf. That was added via the Cleric tab of the main character and validates as I'd expect.

To further test the issue, I created a new Cleric character and tried to add a mount (Horse, Light). I can choose an alignment and a Deity for the mount. But I can't select a race and there is no race pre-populated for me. I can't seem to change it.

I've attached another screenshot showing the test character's horse. I circled the race section in green to show what looks weird to me.

I'm fairly new to Hero Lab, so it's entirely possible I'm doing something stupid. I just can't seem to figure out what it is.

Thanks!

that is kinda weird. there may be some setting in your Configure Character that is affecting this, i just don't know off hand.
just out of curiosity, just to the right of what you cirlced there is a Customize icon...if you click that does it give you some kind of race list to choose from?

Unfortunately no. It brings up a window entitled Customize Race Options and lists such things as Customize Racial Feats, Customize Racial Skill Points, etc., but no mention of actual races.

I'll check through the character configuration options and see if I can identify anything that might cause this behavior -- thanks for the pointer!

i wonder if something changed with the last herolab update...cuz when i added a light horse last night it was fine, but then i updated herolab right before going to sleep and when i try adding it now from the Other tab i see what you are seeing.

Okay, I'm glad you're seeing similar behavior if only to validate I'm not imagining the whole thing.

I think I've found the problem, at least in my configuration. I did not have the "Bestiary Free Content" source data selected. When I selected it, the horse's race automagically became horse and the character validates properly now.

Sorry for the all the trouble. I guess I need to spend some time learning what content all these source files provide.

Thanks for the help! I'd never have thought to look for something like that without your suggestion to check the character configuration.

ah you are right. i had that off on this character as well and adding it makes it horse automatically. glad i could help in some way :)
