Realm Works Output Formatter

Version 1.16 has been released.

This version puts everything for a topic into a single HTML file, so the tool no longer generates lots of additional files for each topic.

Some configuration files have been changed so that the installer will always have the required 2 DLLs (quazip and zlib1).

Hoping you're still active... I just picked up this tool, and it worked great for me except that the index is an empty file. The topics all seem to have exported just fine.

(I noticed something odd which may be related—when selecting the source file, the converter didn't see my RW export file. I had to copy & paste the filename, which it accepted. Could that have something to do with it?)

I'm also in the pre-KS beta team, if that might have some impact.

Even if you can't help me with this, being able to export my topics is still super helpful, so thank you for this tool! :)

I will have a check about the index creation.

Hi Fox,

What settings do you have in the "HTML output" panel of the tool?

Are you performing a "Compact Output" from Realm Works? If so, it should generate a file with the file extension ".rwoutput" (not ".rwexport").

Version 1.17 has just been released

Provide more output options.
This include early prototyping of PDF generation directly from the tool.
The maximum size of images can also be specified; with the picture being scaled down to not exceed the requested width.
Both the PDF and the PRINT options go via a subset of HTML4, so there is an output choice for HTML4 as well.
Memory should be managed better, so less likely to crash with large realms (2000 topics uses up around 777MB of RAM).

Version 1.18 is out

This version adds integration into Windows Explorer.

You can open a .rwexport file and launch the tool directly. I've just realised that this is pointless, as the tool is supposed work with RWOUTPUT files, not RWEXPORT files!

The first time you use it, you will find it under "open with" -> "Choose Another App".

(An application icon will follow later.)

Hey Farling,

The program is running the PDF output, but it's taking quite a while. The program shows as non-responsive in Task Manager. Any ideas?

EDIT: Also, v18 is showing a 404.

The link for 1.18 is now working properly.

I've found that a 900MB RWoutput file takes about 20 seconds to load, and then another 25 seconds to generate XHTML files.

I think there is still some work to do on the direct PDF conversion button. I might remove it in the future. You can quite easily create an XHTML, load it into word (or possibly even a browser) and then print to PDF.

V1.19 has been released

This version has disabled the PDF and PRINT buttons since they don't actually appear to be working on any decent sized realm.

The windows explorer hooks have been changed to load RWOUTPUT files, not RWEXPORT files.

Various code improvements have been made to try and speed up the process. 8 hours of testing managed to reduce a 20 second load time to 19.1 seconds; and 25 seconds of HTML generation time down to 24 seconds. This was for a RWOUTPUT file that is 900MB in size. (I'm not impressed with the minimal speed improvements).

Calling all you LAYOUT ARTISTS (or CSS specialists).

Has anyone experimented with changing the CSS that is generated by this tool?

Has anyone produced a better description of each of the CSS-able elements to make the output prettier?

If so, would you like to share them? Either to replace the default, or to provide as a list of "alternative" styles.

Wow, sorry for not responding to this! I thought I was signed up for email notifications of replies, but I guess not. I apologise for ignoring you.

I suspect you were right about me trying to use .rwexport rather than .rwoutput for a file. I had to search for my RW export this time, so I happen to know it was the only .rwoutput file on my computer. Sounds like I just stuffed up the first time >3>;

Whether it was my fault or an actual bug, the index is A-okay on this version. Thanks for your hard work! :)

Version 1.20 has been released

When generating multiple pages for HTML5, a new line appears at the bottom of each page containing Prev, Next, Up and Top buttons to allow easier navigation between sibling pages.

For the CSS fans, the five elements are controlled by the navTable, navPrev, navNext, navUp and navTop classes.

Version 2.0 is out

The tool is now 64-bit, so this means it won't run out of memory when running on large realms.
(The underlying toolkit has been upgraded to Qt 5.12.0, which supports generating 64-bit applications on Windows.)

(This version generates an error when trying to start it.)

Sadly I cannot use the current version on windows 8.1 64 bit mode.
the application crashes with the following message

The application was unable to start correctly (0x000007b). Click of to close the application.

Curious, I don't have a Windows 8.1 machine to test it on.
Can anybody else confirm that the latest version works on Windows 10?
