the devs have routinely posted the equivalent of "We're aware the log in server is down. We're working on a fix and hope to have the service back up soon." in the past without a problem.

So I do not understand what you are talking about.

The one Dev who was around and repaired the issue does not routinely make announcement posts. It never occurred to him to do so. That really is all there is to it.
