I prefer using Mozilla FireFox and when I use a menu option that launches the web browser it launches IE. Is there a way to change that?

Also, I have some questions about some of the cards in Yu-Gi-Oh! (mostly card names differ from what I have) and I have emailed the author of the datafile but I have not received a reply. Should I post these "discrepancies" here or wait for the author to reply?

Second, will yu-gi-oh ever get "partner sites?" It seems to me that YGO is second in popularity. At least judging by prices reflected on websites and eBay.

CV should be just using the default web browser to view HTML files. I know
when I view a FAQ or whatever, it launches Firefox for me. Do you have IE
or Firefox set up as the default HTML viewer?

How long ago did you send them? I'll poke the data file author and see if I
can wake him up.

We'd love to do partner sites for every game system; the functionality has
been in CV since version 1.3, I think. The hard part is finding a site to
partner with. :)

Do you have any sites that you'd recommend? If so, please let us know what
they are, and also send them an email saying how cool we are and why it
would be in their benefit to work with us. :)

FireFox is my default. View Tutorial and View User Manual both launch IE
but it just goes to a blank screen. All the others seem to open Firefox

I sent emails on the 14th and 15th concerning 2 different issues.

Where would I go to learn what the site would need to do to become a partner
site for Yu Gi Oh?

All of the browser launching code within CV is identical, regardless of
whether it's a web URL (http://) or a local file URL (local filename). The
default browser configured with Windows is invoked via the proper API call
to have Windows figure out the right browser and launch it. Since the two
exceptions you note above are local files, it would seem that something is
not confingured appropriately in the Registry on your system for launching
a browser on a local file. This would probably be an issue with how Firefox
is configured.

There are a variety of ways in which a site can integrate with CV as a
partner site. Deck searching, trade/want list sharing, and price downloads
all can be interfaced with CV. So it really depends on what the site
emphasizes. The big issue is that a large number of sites are written as
closed systems, which makes it hard to integrate functionality with a
product like CV. Sites that are well-written in a modular fashion are much
easier to integrate. It does require a modicum of work on the part of the
site, ranging from a few hours to many days, depending on how the site code
is written. The complete technical documentation will be found at the URL

specialized functionality in CV to optimally support those sites (e.g.

Where in my registry would that be? I am comfortable editing it. Just not
familiar where everything is.

So, it seems to me I could setup some simple site that allows upload and
download of decks, plus searching of the decks, correct? I just skimmed the
document and it seems simple enough passing XML data back and forth....I
will look into it more tomorrow.

Oh, and the Yu-Gi-Oh! datafile author, Robert, contacted me so I am set on
that front. Thanks.

Unfortunately, I have no idea. This would have to do with configuring the
built-in Windows defaults for which application to launch when a file with
a given extension is "launched" via the ShellExecute API function. More
than likely, since everything is working for Colen, it means that you need
to go through all the Firefox settings (within the product) and re-specify
that Firefox should be the default browser for everything. This should
cause all the approriate Registry settings (wherever they are) to get
properly reset by Firefox. If that doesn't work, run IE and have it make
itself the default for everything (it likes doing that <G>). Then go back
and make Firefox the default again. This ought to fix things if Firefox is
not overwriting new state when it sees itself already as the default for
one thing (but not for everything).

I did this and it still did not work but then it hit me that you said it is
a local file for those two menu items. I believe that is actually different
when a browser makes itself the default browser maybe it doesn't change the
local files which uses file:// instead of http://. So, I went to Folder
Options under Windows Explorer, found the HTM file type and it was set to
IE. I changed that to Firefox and it now works.
