Hello all,
I picked up the cd for army builder and have noticed a problem recently
on startup. I had not used AB for awhile and tonight inserted the cd.
Immediately the install program started up, no big deal I simply closed
it down. However AB will not now recognize that the cd is in there, it
will only load the demonstration mode and ask if I want to purchase
now. This has happened before, but corrected itself after shutting
down the program and restarting it. However tonight that does not seem
to be working. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Chris

Most likely, this is due to the use of external disk drives that are
sometimes present and sometimes not (e.g. Zip or Jaz drives). When these
disks are present, they use up a drive letter, and when they are not
present (OR even just turned OFF), they do NOT use a drive letter. This
results in the drive letters for subsequent drives (e.g. CD drives) to
CHANGE between runs. I never anticipated this behavior with the V1.x
version of the CD, so AB gets confused when the drive letter assigned to
the CD gets changed between runs. The solution here is to always run AB
with the same set of drives present (turned on) all the time.

It is also possible that you may have invalidated your registration
completely. This can occur if you re-install the operating system (e.g.
upgrading to Win98). If this has occurred, then you will need to have your
registration transferred to the new code. The full policy on transferring
registrations is outlined within the Frequently Asked Questions topic under
the Help menu and on the web-site.

Let me know if either of these issues might be the problem. If not, please
provide as much information as possible so that I can try to figure out
what might be going wrong.

Thanks, Rob

Have you switched to using multiple user profiles on the same computer?
That might have that effect (it certainly does here).

Reinstall AB from the CD, then download and install v1.4d over the top
of it from http://www.wolflair.com/.

No external drives or devices, other than a usb video capture device
that does not get assigned a drive and is always attached.

No external drives or devices, other than a usb video capture device
that does not get assigned a drive and is always attached. I have
changed drive designations in the past but nothing since purchasing the
cd.

I did have to use a backup registry recently, but the backup
registration did not pre-date the AB install. Unistalling and
re-installing didn't make a difference. I have since been able to get
it to recognize the cd, by turning the system off and restarting with
the cd already in the drive. This seems to work fine, but I'd rather
not have to restart every time I want to get into AB (which is sadly
way too often considering the work I should be doing instead.)
Thanks for the help and quick response.
