Question Regarding Beastiary Packs

Just purchased the Beastiary pack and have 1,2 & 3

I bought them on the assumption that I would be able to pull some monster templates and adjust their HD, CR and feats accordingly in order to add some variety to the monsters I'm using.

I haven't been able to figure out how to do that though.

Was my assumption wrong?

If so, WHAT do I actually use the Beastiary packs for then unless it's to make a tonne of different NPCs from various and sundry races I can get from the three books.

Any help that can be offered with this would be welcome.

To add HD you need to use the class section. Pick your race then select the add class levels option, in the list that opens you'll see the additional HD option, scrolling down you'll also see templates and other options to modify the races.

There is also the adjustment tab where you can alter the stats with temporary, permanent and spell adjustments for most things, bear in mind though that you need to have the bestiary packs selected in the configure hero option box, which opens when you first load Hero Lab.

There is also the customise tick box next to the race selection box which will allow you to swap out feats and skills for every race

Thanks man, I think I'm figuring it out. :)

Basically...I always need to pick a class before I can start adding HD, right?

And sorry about being so dim. Making a character is fantastic in Hero Lab but I became pretty spoiled using WotC's monster generator where it was quite literally drag and drop.

Not that I have a problem with Hero Lab. I just need to get more comfortable with it. :)

No you do not need to pick a class. Just go to the class tab, click on the level up section like you were choosing a class, and click on Additional Hit Die at the top of the selection screen that pops up.

I was having an issue last week as I was preparing for a game. I wanted to add HD to a creature and couldn't figure out how to do it. I know I had done it before and couldn't figure it out. Then I remembered, you need to go to the Configuration, and make sure you make the creature an NPC, then you can add HD, templates, etc.
