I guess I'm not understanding the provided information so far. I'm considering grabbing the 5E SRD but what does all of that entail? Does it include the options from Xanathar's, SCAG, Volo's, etc? Or is it basically just the PHB and some smaller 3rd party stuff?

The SRD only contains the basic rules options which is best described as 1 subclass per class, the acolyte background only and about 90% of the spells and equipment. If you do a search for the 5e SRD or look over at dndbeyond in the Basic Rules section you can get an idea of what is in the SRD.

However, the community has files that add all that back. If you choose to purchase the SRD, check out the first post here to add many of those missing options back: http://forums.wolflair.com/showthread.php?t=55090
