Question about portfolio files and demo version

I have the full version of HL with M&M 2nd and M&M:Ultimate Powers.

Is it possible for me to send my players a por file with their character in it and have them open it using a demo version? I know they can't save or print, but can it view por files? And view files created using extra/purcased modules?

thanks,

I havent tried it, but i think it would work. the way HL loads is that it reads all the files in the directory for the system is it loading. if the por file is there, then it should load up. but like you said, the player wouldnt be able to make changes or save their work.

Also, keep in mind that the demo version is limited on how 'complex' a character it can make. If I remember right, that applies to how complex a character it can load as well.

And, of course, since they wouldn't be able to edit the imported powers, exporting it as a PDF or HTML might actually work better for you.

In demo mode, only the *core* package material is accessible. If you limit the character to use of the core material only, demo mode will work nicely for you. However, any use of content from the MM/UP add-on package will be inaccessible to someone running in demo mode. :-(

The limit on character complexity only applied to very early versions of Hero Lab. That was dropped back in 2007. Any character of any complexity can be created, so any character portfolio can be viewed, subject to the exclusion of add-on packages.

Consequently, if you use add-on content, Duggan's suggestion of exporting to PDF or HTML may be better in this instance.

I've been providing PDF files to the players. I just wanted to see if it was possible to give them the por files, too.

Thanks for the information concerning add-on modules. That was my biggest concern of whether or not it could work. Since we're not limited to just the core, then the idea won't work for us.

Thanks
