Problem with seperators

Erich

Well-known member
I'm having a bit of a problem with two of my seperators, they are showing up in the wrong place in the list. I created a seperator for Medeival Blunt and Medeival Exotic, and they do show up, but they show up at the top of the list with nothing under them.
To make the Medeival Blunt seperator I created another weapon, named it, gave it a unique ID, set the weapon type to Medeival Blunt, checked Show Only, unchecked Treat as standard gear and set the source to Space_1889.

This is the same thing I did with all of the other seperators I have used and they are all showing up and sorting correctly.

Any thoughts?

Did you select Medieval Blunt from the drop down list, or did you type it in? I only wonder because you spelled it incorrectly in your post (Med-ei-val rather than Med-ie-val) and if you accidentally created a tag with the misspelling it won't link it to the existing type but create a new one (which doesn't sort in right).

Edit: Scratch that, Medieval Blunt it NOT one of the standard Tags. Check the common codes post and you'll see the second post covers separators and the only valid tags you can actually use, although you can name your separator anything you want, those are an indicator of in what order things will show up in given the available Tags.

OK, I'm confused.
Both Medieval Blunt and Medieval Exotic both show up on the drop down under weapon type; but you say their not standard tags?
So in order to make the separators work, I need to link them and the weapons they should be sorting to one of the current tags on that list?

Yep. Things will show up in the drop down list if they are in ANY other .user file in your directory. Anyone names a tag and it exists for all your files, but that doesn't mean they are one of the core tags whose names you can use for sorting purposes.

I wouldn't let bother you too much, though. Think of the list of "official" tags as being nothing more than a sort order. Feel free to ignore WHAT they say completely. Want Laser Pistols to be first on the list? Then make your separator and your pistols all part of the "Medieval Blades" type. Nobody looking at the character creator will know the difference unless they look at the file in the Editor.

I have not tried it, but you could probably use numbers in the unique id to help to put it in the order that you want. wp01 should go before wp02.

Thanks guys.
I just used the tags in the order they appeared in zarlor's post and got things in the order I wanted.
It did however make for some strange combos of tags and weapons but it worked.

The problem is if you make your own by adding a new tag it will show up but there is no way to place them where you want them. It's one of the only flaws I have found in the herolab program, it's the same through all the game systems. I was told by Mathias there isn't a way to add your own with just using tags. You would have to go into the hard coded files to do it and there is a lot of problems doing it that way. How I found as a work around is to make a copy of one of the separators and rename it to what you want - mainly pick one you might not be using. Then just preclude the one you copied and you have a new separator with your renamed version. That's the only safe and real way to get what you want. Like zarlor had said - check the codes he put up - It's got what I showed him how to do it. Mathias also discussed this I think in the Pathfinder forum, but I'm not sure if it was that forum or a different one since I have all the game systems, but it was discussed and explained.
