Pathfinder 1st Level Character Gen Question

Hello all. I am trying out the demo version of the Pathfinder package for Hero Lab and I'm about a hair's width from buying this excellent product... however, I do have one question.

After launching HL and choosing the Pathfinder game, I am brought to a screen labeled "Configure Your Hero". I choose Type: Hero (PC), Pick/Roll Ability Scores and Starting Level = 1.

I am then brought to the main program, starting on the "Class" tab. I choose "Wizard" as my favored class. At the top of this tab, in bold, purple lettering in the "Class Levels" section, it says "Level Up!". I also note that this screen says that I am currently at level 0, with 0/0 xp.

At the top, to the right of the "Name" text box, it says my HP are currently 0/0.

Now, if I click the Level Up! section, I can add my first level of Wizard, and this is where things get weird... after adding that first level, I now have a drop down on that level's row for me to add either +1 skill point or +1 hitpoints.

My understanding, and I am by no means a pathfinder expert, is that this choice of of +1 to hp or a skill is only available on leveling up, but not at character creation. As it is now, I could start my wizard with +1 to his hitpoints at level 1.

Am I missing something? What am I doing wrong?

No and you aren't doin anything wrong! It's your favoured class bonus. Add a level of fighter and you'll see it disappear add a wizard level and it'll reappear for that level only.

Doing nothing wrong this is correct. At each level you take in your favored class you get to pick either +1 HP or +1 Skill point. Level 1 is a level of wizard so you get to pick +1 HP or +1 SP.
