Orphaned and missing sources

I've been creating and modifying HL files (a customized race & a trait) in the past few days and, though it all works on my computer, once I've tested and saved the material in my usual .user file and then exported & and uploaded an associated .hl file, my iPad keeps giving me "Orphaned due to missing thing in batch" errors.

I've done this kind of stuff successfully before but it just doesn't seem to be working this time. I've even tried re-activating my license a few times but it persists. What did I miss?

My guess is you missed a file. Are you using any .1st, .dat, .str files? If so you have to manually add them into the .hl build.

If not make sure on the HLExport tool you are doing "Tools->Select Only .user files". That will make sure you are grabbing all your .user files.

Thanks for the help ShadowChemosh! I'm not familiar with .1st, .dat, .str files, so I doubt I'm using any of those. How might I check that?

I tried the Tools->Select Only .user files, which is a great time saver BTW, but it doesn't seem to resolve this issue. I only ever save new material to the same .user file so it isn't as if my material is being misplaced.

I've tried importing the .hl file through email and dropbox onto my iPad, and it seems to work normally, except for these orphan errors. Is there some way to go and check that what material has been imported from within the iPad HL besides the error messages?

Hm. I tried the import one more time, and it seems to have finally recognized all my previous update attempts; the orphaned thing errors have disapeared. Unfortunately now, when I try to open one of my portfolios, I get a slew of 'Duplicate record encountered' errors' and the Portfolio fails to open. *sigh*

If you are not using the .hl Third Party Unique ID then HL does not know that the 2nd, 3rd file you imported is the same "package". So I would start fresh and remove all your custom packages on the iPad.

Click on "Updates" and in the bottom left window you can "Left Swipe" on the package name to bring up the "delete" option. Remove them all. Then I would force close the app. Then install just "one" copy of your package (.hl file). And see how it goes.

Also when you get the error on the iPad you can usually copy the text. And then paste it here. That can help with figuring this out.

If your using a single .user file then then no chance you have those other file names I mentioned. And they are all written in XML outside of the editor. :)

I figured my data may have gotten corrupted somehow, so I went ahead and deleted HL from my iPad entirely, reinstalled it along with the system update, my .hl file and re-imported my portfolios from Dropbox. It all seems to be working alright now. So it seems your advice was on the right track as usual. Thanks again ShadowChemosh; you always seem to know what's up with HL.
