NPCs and money?

I could swear NPCs used to have a Journal tab but they don't now. How am I supposed to manage their money? Journal entries are a painful way to do it in general, but it's *the* way, so... Sure I can make a 'custom gear' and call it 495 gp but that's pretty lame. Am I missing something?

You can use the Configure Hero dialog to set their total money. Not great, but workable.

What I did was go into the editor and create "gold piece", "silver piece", "platinum piece" and "copper piece" valuables, with values of 1, .1. 10, and .01 gp, respectively, and appropriate coin weight. "Buy" what you need of them "for free" to add money to a creature, then "sell" them at 100% value to transfer it to their tracked money.

Additionally, this can be used to represent actual treasure found, and to transfer money easily from creature to creature.

I just switch them over to player characters when building them so I can adjust wealth. Once I'm finished with the NPC I switch them back over to NPC.

Oh that's a great idea! In fact, I'm not really sure of the value of making them "NPC" vs "PC" at all, I'll just switch them and keep 'em switched. Thanks!

PC: needs XP to level, gets traits, gets journal tab
NPC: doesn't need XP to level, doesn't get traits, doesn't get journal tab

Those are the main functional differences. Now, if only I could figure out why sometimes NPCs wealth is set to 0gp on creation, and other times it remains the default 150gp, even after being switched to NPC.
