I am having some difficulty understanding these terms as well as sharing.
I understood the terms pre-Realm Works:
Local: Stored on my PC.
Global: Stored on many PCs (network, cloud, internet).
Sharing: Letting someone see it.
As I understand them within Realm Works (and this took a while):
Local: My user data, on PC or the cloud, but set up with my custom structure. I would call this Custom or User, not Local
Global: My user data following the predefined RW structure. I would call this Predefined, not Global.
Sharing: Giving it to another user of Realm Works but NOT just allowing players to see it via the web portal.
So, if my understanding is correct then it has nothing to do with the data being local, but the structure being mine. In either case the data will be synced with the cloud (which is not local) once that option is available.
And if this understanding is correct then my local settings will work the way I set it up in regards to the reveals for my players. But these settings "MAY" cause problems if I try to sell/give my setup to a third party.
I assume this is the case so that users can import information, such as individuals or places, into already existing realms. I understand how the same fields with different labels are still the same fields as the computer sees them.
I would imagine there will be many cases where the layout will be just as important as the data itself. I know I have an excel system that I am porting to Realm Works where the layout is very important. Is/will it be possible to share that layout in the future and if so, what steps should I take to do it? I assume that as long as all the fields are newly created by me and no Global (pre-defined as I understand it) fields are used then I should be good to go.
To summarize, if I don't use any global fields at all then I should have no problems because if I share my data, they will just be new fields that don't interact/overwrite any old fields and if I import data it can't interact/overwrite any of my user created fields.
Please confirm or correct any of these assumptions or understandings.
And keep up the good work, I love this thing!
