I am trying to unfold a campaign setting PDF into Realm Works. But, instead of doing copy-paste of the relevant information, I would like to have many links to the PDF.

So, for example, if I have the Mountain of Doom, instead of preparing snippets about it I would like to do the following with just one snippet:

Mountain of Doom: page 5; page 21; page 89

Where every page when I click opens up a PDF exactly at the word "Mountain of Doom" of that page and not only that page in general.

Is this even possible?

EDIT: as a side note, can I do this to an external pdf on my hard drive? Or does the pdf need to be imported in RW?

I guess this depends on your PDF viewer. Does it support having a URL which will open a named document at a specific page and/or paragraph?

Acrobat Reader seems to support something of the form http://www.example.com/myfile.pdf#page=4 if you want it open to a specific page.

You can also specify a "destination" that has been defined in the PDF (not the same as a bookmark?) by using something like http://www.domain.com/file.pdf#nameddest=TOC.

All of this would only work with the PDFs being stored externally, since storing a PDF document inside a snippet will only allow you open the document at its default starting point (always the first page?)

No those named positions aren't bookmarks. They have to have names which bookmarks don't and are part of the PDF when it's authored.

The only way to do precisely what the OP wants would be to create entirely new PDF with anchors baked as targets for every inbound link he wants. If the PDF is big enough that copying and pasting the document into RW isn't realistic then I doubt that would be either.

Linking to the top of a specific page is easy assuming he's using a viewer that's any good.

I have a quite powerful pdf sofware (pdf expert) and I think I can create anchors to inbound links. It might take a while, but I think it might be faster than doing the copy-paste thing.

But how do I go mechanically to do this in RW? I have no clue on what exactly I have to do to link to a PDF stored on my hard drive.

I assume there's a specific kind of snippet that I have to choose, and point it to the PDF link?

EDIT: and which one would be the natural folder to store such PDF?

You need to use the foreign object snippet.

Unless PDF expert is way faster at this sort of thing than Acrobat I strongly doubt creating lots of anchors will be faster than simply copy and paste into RW.

As to folder, you'd be best off putting the pdf in a cloud storage service and linking to the local copy of that. That way if/when your present computer dies you'll simply reinstall the cloud service app and your links will all work.
