License Issue

I recently installed the newest version of Windows 7. Well, army builder now says that my license is not good and I need to update it. Is says, "A change has occurred with the operating system on your computer. Most likely, you have recently upgraded or re-installed the operating system. This change has rendered your license keyfile invalid and your license must be re-assigned so that you can obtain a new keyfile. To accomplish this automatically, please go to the 'License' menu and select 'Install License' to update your license information...."

Well, first off there is not "install" button in the "license" menu. However, there is "Activate License..." So I tried that but it says I cannot do this until 120 days after the first time I did it.

What is going on here? I can't be waiting that long. I paid for this software and want to use it. How can I get my new keyfile? I tried the manual directions as well and they lead to the same end.

Thank you.

Same issue

I am having the same issue, except I have not previously installed with the CDKey. It is my first install, and it won't let me use the software.

This is very annoying considering the pricetag of the product and the expectations that come with something being developed for as long as it has.

None of my friends had any issues, benefit of the doubt here, but certainly simply installing your fine program for the first time on a machine that has never had any previous Army Builder installs should work flawlessly.

The program restricts you from moving your license between computers (and inadvertantly restricts re-installing it due to how sensitive it is to changes in what computer it's on). The company will alter your license on their server to waive the 120 day restriction. The support email is support@wolflair.com.

Trubbs, did you perhaps buy a used copy? If so, the previous user may have installed it within the last 120 days.

How long does it take them to get back to you? I sent them an email Friday. I guess they don't work over the weekend?

Also, what info do I need to send them? I just told them my problem, but obviously they will need to know my info so they can reset it.

Finally, how do you know this? Do you work for them? If so, can you do something about this?

I've never had any problems with the license. I just log into the license server and do what it tells me. I normally do some kind of upgrade every few months so I have had to use the server. Just follow the prompts and you should have no problems.

I too have a similar issue. How will we know when I can reactivate it on my same/new operating system computer.

When you sent the email to technical support, you should have received an automated reply that says we got your email and that you'll get a proper response within 48-72 hours. If you sent the email on Friday, then that means you might not get a response until Monday. Since our point person for technical support is Nancy, and since Sunday was Mother's Day, I'm guessing that she didn't do a lot of work over the weekend. :-)

When you contact support about a problem like this, you need to send your name, license number, and email address. It's also important to include a description of the problem. Since I'm sure your goal is to get things resolved as quickly as possible, and since we only have the information you provide to work with, it's generally a good idea to include as much detail as possible about what you are trying to do and what's going wrong. It's critical to include the text of any error messages you are given - or attach a screenshot.

The mechanism allows for users to re-install their license on a "new" computer every 4 months. Since the average user only upgrades his system or the operating system every 18-24 months, that's much more frequent that most users should ever need. However, we realize that events don't play out according to plan all time, since disks crash, viruses get through, etc. So if your license needs to be moved to a "new" computer less than 120 days after the last time, all you need to do is contact support and the problem can be taken care of for you.

If you want to know exactly when your license, go to the license administration website at www.lonewolfdevel.com and login with your license. Then select the option to View License Details. Along with other details, you'll be shown the transfer history for your license. Four months after the latest transfer date, you'll be able to transfer your license again. If there is no transfer history, then the four months count from the Issue Date.

In general, you shouldn't need to worry about the date, though. If you need to re-activate the license on a "new" computer sooner than the 120-day period, just contact support and your license can be unlocked for immediate transfer.

If this is your first install and you are being told this, you should contact the retailer where you bought the product. It means that you have purchased a copy of AB that someone else is actively using. They sold it back to the retailer, who in turn sold it to you. But the license is still assigned to the original user.

I sent my e-mail on Sunday, and it is Wednesday and I still haven't gotten a response (I did get the automated one).

I sent another follow up e-mail today. Since it has been since Sunday that I e-mailed my original message, I am finding this process rather frustrating.

My original e-mail wasn't very complimentary, as I find the whole concept rather rediculous, but I can respect your right to protect your work as much as possible.

Can I recommend reducing the transfer time to a month or 30 day period. That would have been fine in my case, and is even enough time to "wait out". 120 days is just excessive, and I am very disatisfied with not only the policy, but the amount of time it is taking to even get a response.

I replied about this in the alternate thread you started earlier today. If your original email contained profanity or some other language equally "interesting", then that could help explain why it might have been grabbed by a spam filter and didn't get through to Nancy.

The 120-day period was chosen for some very specific reasons that I can't really get into here on the forums. All I can say is that switching to a 30-day period would only encourage piracy. It's because of rampant piracy among gamers that we were forced to adopt the current security measures, so please direct your frustration at them for having made life less convenient for the honest users. :-(
