L5R Diamond Released!!

rob

Administrator
Staff member
The title pretty much sums it up. I've released new L5R data files with all
the Diamond pre-release information. This new update also includes a
built-in proxy card printer, so you can start building and playing Diamond
decks in a mere moments. :-) You'll find the new release listed in the
updates within Card Vault, so go get it!!

I'm wholly expecting there to be a variety of problems uncovered in these
new data files. I've tried to nail down everything as well as possible, but
L5R is incredibly complex (moreso than necessary due to a seemingly
arbitrary lack of consistency) and I'm still a complete newbie to all the
nuances of the game. Please report all problems to me and I'll do my best
to get them corrected. However, unless something horrible rears its head, I
have many other tasks that have been woefully neglected due to the L5R
stuff, so please be patient for the next update. :-)

A hearty thank you to everyone who has helped out with getting these files
tested and getting me educated! And a HUGE THANK YOU to Kuni Tetsu, without
whom these files wouldn't exist! :->

Thanks, Rob

I've been asked to pass this along:

The Diamond cards have been added to Card Vault, but I have found an error.
Could someone who is on the Card Vault list pass this on?

I am getting a "over the limit" error when I add 3 copies of a Singular card.
Singular still allows three copies in your deck.

***As a FYI. singular acts very much like a Legend card in Magic: TG

That would be my fault - I was under the impressions that singular was like
Unique, except that it applied only to your deck, not to your opponents as
well.

And I will send the thanks right back to Lone Wolf - Many thanks to Ed Bolme,
who got me the data on a lot of the old cards.

Ok.. Time for my Report.

1) Crushing Blow isn't in there yet. Is that intentional?
2) When I imported the datafiles, I got an error about an Orphan
Card. The Orphan Log shows:
Orphan #0
Card Id: woc118
Artwork: 1
Language: 0
Style: 0
Owned: 0
Excess: 0
Acquire: 1

That is the only orphan card, and I can't for the life of me figure
out what it is. It's got to be an Event. It apparently existed in the
original WoC database (because when I got it, I set All Events to be
Acquire 1)

3) And this is more of a bug in Card Vault.. I have a deck
constructed from when the Diamond list came out (before Diamond cards
were in the inventory.) I have several cards on there that, when I
first added them to the deck, they didn't have the Diamond bug (For
example.. Marketplace).
When I open the deck now, it says "Marketplace is not Strict Diamond".
I noticed the problem gets corrected if I remove the card, then Re-
Enter it.. Which leads me to the next bug.

4) Apparently, when you delete a stack of cards from a deck, it stays
in memory that there exists a Copy of that card in your deck. So when
you go to add the card back into your deck (Like the example above, I
deleted the "Non-Diamond" marketplaces, and added 3 "Diamond"
marketplaces..) it says that, even though you only show 3 on the Deck
Listing screen, it says you have more than 3 copies of that card in
your deck.

Upon further playing, I saved the deck to a file, closed Card Vault,
then reopened it.. Opened the Deck... And the problem didn't exist
anymore.

That's what I've found so far. Thank you guys SOOOO MUCH for putting
those files in there. I just found CV a month ago, and my local store
didn't carry it. I had to have a friend buy it for me over the
internet (since I don't have any credit cards).

Thanks again!

Oh, there's consistancy, it's just that it isn't an absolute,
mathematical consistancy. It's more like the consistancy of a
language, where words get added as needed. >:) It's a lot of
concepts
that are incredibly hard to wrap your head around, but when they
click, everything makes perfect sense. Yes, this means AEG has
succeed at creating the zen koan of CCGs. That's what happens when
you go out to copy Magic's success by being everything Magic isn't
[shrug].

As for the reprints issue, everyone else beat me to it. In order to
have maximum playablity out of a starter, L5R reprints cards from
previous Editions in the decks. Noticed I used a capital 'E'. The
base sets, named [blank] Edition (Obsidian, Pearl, Diamond for
example), are where most of these cards originally come from.
Starters from an Edition, like Gold and Diamond, will never have
reprints, because everything comes from that uber-set. Most of these
reprints are staples of any deck: Jade Works, Block Supply Lines, the
faction's holding, some common followers. Sometimes they'll release
a
MRP in the reprints to fix a card.

To complicate matters, L5R often uses the reprints to further the
story, i.e. they change flavor texts as often as most people change
their socks. Kabuki Theatre Troop was reprinted in a starter of
every
Gold legal expansion, and the flavor was tweaked everytime to give a
running conversation between two characters. Not all cases will be
that extreme, but I can't see a better example of a worse case
scenario.

Welcome to L5R, Rob. These are not the bugs, they're the features. :D

I'm working from data provided by AEG two weeks ago.

That's a card that was included in the spoiler data given to me by AEG but
that was NOT actually printed. You should NOT have any inventory for this
card. However, if you used Batch Edit to set an acquire value (as it
appears you did), then that's the cause of the problem. To clear this,
please follow the steps outlined in the User Manual to backup your
inventory and then restore it. Use the "simple" backup procedure.

The inheritance of bugs was not addressed within the V5.1 files, simply
because I didn't know about it and it wasn't caught before release.

Yep. This is a bug in V1.2 that we'll be getting fixed.

Please tell your friends about Card Vault. We're a tiny company and don't
have a big marketing budget, so we rely on word-of-mouth advertising. If
you like the product, let your friends know!

Thanks, Rob

Alrighty... It's not like I have any yet.. Just wanted to mention. ;)

Ah.. You're right. Now I remember it's the Ancestor. Whoops. :)

Done and Fixed. :)

Ah-ha. Am I safe to assume this will be rectified at some point in
the future? not like it really matters to me, as I'm starting to use
CV at Diamond, and not for my Earlier decks, but still it's a nice
little thing to have. ;)

Very cool. This bugged me to the end of my wits.

I've told just about everyone in my playgroup about how good the
program is. I like the probability draws and statistics that the
program can provide. And, as of this post, the quick succinct
responses from anyone who works for/with the company.

Thanks a ton!
