I've updated my iPad air to iOS 8.02 now my HL app crashes to black screen after a few moments. Reading the release notes for HL it was mentioned that this happened occasionally but a bug release was submitted to Apple to fix this.


Bug report submitted via app but thought I'd also mention on it here for reference.
 
A lot of apps are doing that on the new iOS.

One that comes to mind is Words with Friends, as that one does it whenever I first open it. If I leave it in the memory it does fine. I start it up, as it is booting up it blanks, then I get back in and it works fine from that point forward.

Is this the same thing that you are experiencing? I do not have the iPad app as it did not zoom in to read, which is a necessary feature for me. The Accessibility zooming does not work very well for something like this.

Seems to have fixed that error.

Edit Edit : It would appear that the CB - Bestiary or Superpack is the culprit. The player pack is fine.

I reinstalled then began installing the CB packs,

The adjustments pack is fine.
The super pack alone crashed the app.
The bestiary alone crashed the app.

It's definitely something from the Community files. I deleted everything and added back Community Bestiary, Forgotten Realms, and Psionics, and I'm not having the issue anymore. The only other packs I had installed when the crashes were happening were ShadowChemosh's Adjustment, and his Gestalt beta. There may have been others, but that's all I can remember.
 
Bodrin if I remeber correctly you have an iPad 2 which is extremely low on memory. The only way to use the CB is to try and load a character and then the app crashes because it runs out of memory. Open app right back up and open the .por file again and it will work. This is a known issues with 2 and minis that have so little memory.

The issue is just going to get worse as the CB grows and PATHFINDER Game files from LW grows. I don't think during testing I could get the super pack to work on a 2. This is another reason I have packages open again on the iPad you can download just the CB.

The older iPads just where never meant to handle the type of memory requirements that HL needs.

Most see the issue appear with the Super pack or just the CB because they are so large especially when added to any other packages.

This exact type of thread has happened before and Colen has confirmed the low memory on the older iPads.

Nope, iPad Air and iPad mini.

I had an iPad 1.

It's still in use by my daughter and hero lab won't load on it.

Ok then can you cover exact steps including providing the .por file you are using? As I have an air and I have tried to overload it with packages and it does not crash.

So when you say crash do you mean the app suddenly closes or do you mean you get a list of errors? If it's a list of errors you can copy them from the iPad and past them here.

The only time I have had issues is with my older ipad 2.

And my bad I read past the part in your first post where you said air. My bad.

Steps taken.

Uninstall HL.
Reinstall HL.
Activate
Link to Dropbox. Test okay
Delete iconic portfolios
Load one custom portfolio Test Okay.
Load shadowchemosh adjustments test Okay.
Load Player Pack Test Okay.
Delete Player Pack.
Load Super Pack crash to Black.
Delete super pack test okay.
Load community bestiary crash to black.
Delete community bestiary test okay.

I've sent a Pm with my portfolio link for testing purposes Shadow as I'm on my iPad at the moment and can't attach a file.
 
So just did the same steps and its working fine. Be sure you "force" close ALL other apps before trying to use HL. Its a massive memory hog.

Currently though it loads without issues for me.

A "restart" does not force close apps. So be sure to follow THESE steps.

Try that and see what happens.
 
1. My ipad air only crashes the app when I exit a portfolio after making a change. Instead of the community files from the site, I used an exported .hl file containing all .user and .1st files from my system.

2. The only other problem I have with the ipad now, is that I can only try to start a portfolio once on the ipad. After that, it crashes to black after putting in the name of the new character.

I always force close Apps.
So that's not an nor is it the issue.
I'm experimenting with just the official datafiles at the moment.

Apologies if it's offended.
However, shadow I've emailed another version of the same portfolio from the iPad but this time I'm only using the Superpack add on and deleted the adjustments.

My iPad hasn't crashed once, so the only change I've made is to eliminate the community adjustments file.

Edit : The portfolio loads with just the Superpack installed.
Installing the Adjustments as well makes the program crash. Reading the notes the adjustments package is incorporated in the super pack. That may be an issue, duplicate data.

Is Forgotten realms inside the superpack? I will try what you did Bodrin to see if that fixes mine as well. I have a few .user files I created, so I probably still need them, but I will try without first.

No issues. I know you enough to know not to take stuff that way. I am annoyed more at not being able to find a good way to work with the app. Its better in many ways.

I will give it a try. The Adjustments is in the Super Pack like you found out. I wonder if instead of giving you the "duplicate" error window its causing it to crash. Let me see if I try that and can duplicate the issue.

No the super pack does not contain anything from RavenX. He wanted his stuff to 100% separate from the community stuff.
